Santa Monica Studio is seeking a Technical Accessibility Designer for an unannounced new title.


As a Technical Accessibility Designer, you will combine your passion for accessibility with your technical expertise to lead design efforts, collaborating with design, art, and engineering teams to implement and optimize accessibility features and systems.


Responsibilities

  • Act as a key stakeholder in design discussions, advocating for diverse player experiences and engaging with departments throughout development.

  • Identify potential issues early by guiding departments to incorporate accessibility considerations.

  • Design and implement accessibility features, working with engineering, art, and design teams to scope, schedule, and complete work.

  • Monitor and adapt to emerging challenges based on design changes and testing data.

  • Support hardware-specific features such as haptic feedback and adaptive controls.

  • Play through game content to analyze, validate, and provide feedback on accessibility features, translating feedback into actionable tasks.

  • Contribute to collaborative design discussions, promoting communication and creativity across teams.

  • Work closely with UI/UX leads and other department heads to define design, technical, and data requirements.

  • Mentor other accessibility designers to enhance their skills in design, scripting, and implementation.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with scripting languages (Lua, C#, Python, etc.) and experience with visual scripting systems.

  • Experience in designing, advocating for, and implementing accessibility features in games.

  • Knowledge of design patterns for various accessibility needs.

  • Understanding of barriers faced by people with disabilities in gaming.

  • Collaborative, inclusive attitude with strong communication skills.

  • Experience mentoring and training other designers.

  • Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with God of War (2018) and God of War: Ragnarok.

  • Experience working on action RPGs.
  • Background in Computer Science or Engineering.
