Job summary

Hawthorne Cat, a family-owned leader in construction machinery sales, service, and equipment, invites applications for Tech Trainee 3 at our Waipahu location. This trainee role supports the Rentals division under the Corporate Machine Rental line and emphasizes active training, safety, and hands-on experience in our service department and at customer sites.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, PC skills, and tools to perform the work; forklift certification

Responsibilities

Disassembles, cleans, and reassembles Caterpillar and allied machinery.
Measures and identifies parts for reusability or replacement; orders parts as needed.
Performs maintenance tasks per Caterpillar and allied guidelines.
Attends training classes and achieves passing grades.
Completes service reports in a timely, HPC-standard manner.
Travel within HPC territory as required.
Operates HPC service vehicles.
Adheres to safety, housekeeping, and company policies.
Maintains positive relationships with customers and colleagues.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Tech Trainee 3

Reports to: Corporate Machine Rental

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Division: HPC

Department: Rentals

Union: OE

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Big Island Product Support Manager, the Tech Trainee 3 primarily performs duties in the service department or at customer’s location. The Tech Trainee 3 may at times, perform unskilled or semiskilled duties in assigned areas. The Tech Trainee 3 will remain in the Trainee 3 classification for a minimum period of 1 year. During this period, the Tech Trainee 3 shall attend all assigned training classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Disassembles, cleans, and reassembles Caterpillar, allied product machines, and Ag& Turf and industrial products serviced by the Service Department.
Measures and identifies parts and components for reusability or replacement, ordering new parts as required.
Performs all requirements found in Caterpillar and other allied lubrication and maintenance and warranty guidelines.
Attends training classes as directed and obtains passing grades.
Completes Service Reports in a timely manner and in accordance with HPC standards.
Travel as required within HPC established territory.
Operates HPC service vehicles.
Adheres strictly to HPC safety, housekeeping, credit, and other rules, policies, and procedures.
Maintains a favorable business relationship with customers, suppliers, and personnel from other HPC departments.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED

Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Must have a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
Must have PC skills.
Must be forklift certified or able to be certified within 60 days.
Must own hand tools that are suitable to perform the work noted above.
At least 1 year of experience is preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Walking: Moves about on foot, often through uneven terrain.
Hands/arms: Operates equipment and hand and power tools.
Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.
Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.
Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
Climbing: In and out of equipment.
Raising/Lowering: Goes up and down in man lifts.
Vision: Reads work tickets and parts and service books and operates heavy equipment.
Talking: Communicates by radio, phone, and in person.
Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone, and in person.
Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles for extended periods.
Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment for extended periods.
Lifting: Lifts up to 60lbs. daily, frequent exertion.

ENVIRONMENTAL

Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
Temp/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
Exposure: Subject to foul odors, fumes, and harsh substances.
