Job summary

Citizens Bank is seeking a Technology Risk Intern for the 2027 Enterprise Technology & Security Summer Internship Program. This 10-week program begins in late May 2027 and will be based at one of our headquarters locations in Johnston, RI, Phoenix, AZ, or Plano, TX.

Interns will work with Technology Risk teams to develop risk insights, dashboards, and remediation strategies. Participants gain mentorship, leadership exposure, and professional development through workshops, networking, and service

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Information Security and Assurance, CS, Software Development or related tech field.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Familiar with Agile and Scrum; Jira experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of Linux/Windows and VMware ESXi; experience with databases is desired.

Responsibilities

• Aggregate and analyze data from sources like ServiceNow, GRC platforms, control testing outputs, and incident data to identify risk indicators.
• Translate data insights into actionable recommendations to address control gaps and reduce risk.
• Create and maintain dashboards, views, and trend analyses for risk signals.
• Assist in evidence collection, documentation drafting, and stakeholder coordination across the ETS Risk portfolio.
• Support control testing, process walkthroughs, and risk assessments to strengthen risk methodology.
• Contribute to automation of data pulls and streamline reporting workflows.
• Apply AI tools via structured prompts to support data analysis and draft trend summaries.

The Enterprise Technology & Security Summer Internship Program is a critical program within Enterprise Technology & Security Services that helps passionate early career professionals gain real-world exposure to groundbreaking technology.

Technology Risk Track

Technology Risk Interns work collaboratively with Technology Risk teams to pursue a broad range of initiatives. By using technical skills and an inquisitive mind, interns will help build a well-controlled operating environment that is sustainable, scalable, and efficient utilizing a data first mindset, with high skilled resources, and streamlined processes to proactively identify, manage and measure risk

Through hands-on experience in this role, the Technology Risk Intern will:

Develop an understanding of aggregating and analyzing data from multiple sources (e.g., ServiceNow reports, GRC platforms, control testing outputs, incident data) to identify themes, trends, and emerging risk indicators across the ETS Risk portfolio.

Build analytical skills by helping translate data insights into actionable recommendations that support efforts to address control gaps, reduce risk exposure, and prioritize remediation activities.

Gain experience creating and maintaining reporting views, dashboards, and trend analyses that help surface risk signals to first line risk managers and stakeholders.

Build foundational knowledge of risk management practices through supporting evidence collection, documentation drafting and review, and stakeholder coordination across the ETS Risk portfolio.

Observe and participate in control testing, process walkthroughs, and risk assessments to strengthen your understanding of first line risk methodology, control design, and testing approaches.

Develop problem-solving skills by contributing to continuous improvement efforts, including opportunities to automate manual data pulls, streamline reporting workflows, and enhance the team’s use of analytics tools.

Learn and apply AI tools through structured prompt engineering to support data analysis activities, such as synthesizing large datasets, identifying risk themes and anomalies, and drafting preliminary trend summaries for senior analyst review.

Experience during the program
In this 10-week program, interns will gain a strong understanding of Cloud Services at Citizens. This program also provides mentorship, exposure to senior leadership, and participation in a variety of activities to further develop professional skills, including:

• Orientation and networking with all ETS interns
• Professional development workshops (such as Personal Branding and Communicating with Impact)
• Social activities (such as sporting events and a bank-wide intern BBQ)
• Dedicated community service activities

Life after the program
High-performing interns interested in pursuing a career within Enterprise Technology & Security may be extended an offer to return as a Full-time colleague in our Enterprise Technology & Security Development Program (ETSDP) upon graduation. The ETSDP is a full-time program that helps rising professionals build a meaningful career within software, network/systems, data or cloud engineering, technology risk and security.

What you’ll need to apply:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Information Security and Assurance, Computer Science, Software Development or other technology-related degree.
• Expected graduation date of May 2028
• Demonstrated ability to operate in a team environment, strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:

Knowledge of or experience with Agile and Scrum methodologies, sprints, and Jira.

• Knowledge of or experience with operating systems such as Linux, Windows, VMWare ESX.
• Knowledge of or experience with Database technologies.
• Cybersecurity and Cloud coursework or experience preferred

The position offers $30 per hour as a starting rate.
