Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking a Lead, Technology R&D Engineer to drive design, development, and validation of emerging tech solutions, turning research into scalable prototypes and pilot-ready capabilities.

You will lead cross-functional R&D activities across AI, Automation, and Innovation Enablement, shaping enterprise strategy, ensuring feasible, valuable outcomes, and partnering with teams to scale prototypes into production while adhering to governance and security standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required.
• 7 years of experience in software engineering, product development, or emerging technology roles.
• Hands-on full-stack development experience with modern frontend frameworks, backend development, REST/GraphQL APIs, and databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms, system architecture, Git, CI/CD, and collaborative workflows.
• Familiarity with Azure cloud services, Azure AI, Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Fabric, Power Platform.
• Experience mentoring engineers and collaborating across technical and business teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and validation of prototypes, proofs-of-concept, and pilot solutions.
• Translate research objectives into scalable architectures and implementation approaches.
• Lead build-vs-buy analyses, vendor assessments, and platform evaluations.
• Guide experimentation, evaluation frameworks, and technical validation of emerging technologies.
• Mentor engineers and establish best practices for rapid prototyping and iterative development.
• Communicate findings and tradeoffs to both technical and business stakeholders.
