Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health opened its doors in April 2025 as the first new full-service hospital in Washington, DC in more than 25 years! Integrating clinical care with existing community providers, Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC's), The George Washington University Hospital, and our Urgent Care Center in Ward 8, this enhanced integrated delivery system will establish a robust network of care for all District residents, but more importantly, it will ensure residents of Wards 7 and 8 have access to high quality care in their community. Our advanced hospital will offer 136 beds (with the ability to expand to 184 beds), a verified trauma center, adult and pediatric emergency departments, maternal health and newborn delivery, an ambulatory pavilion for clinic visits and other outpatient services, onsite 550-car parking garage, and a helipad for emergency transport.

We are seeking a Pharmacy Technician (Full-Time/Nights)

Our ideal candidate will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, assist in the preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and maintenance of records. They will procure and distribute drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols. They will perform medication dose calculations for adult and pediatric populations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Procedure and distribute drug orders per physician or pharmacist request (or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures, and protocols) all work checked by a registered pharmacist prior to leaving the pharmacy.
  • Carry out the calculations required for the usual dosage determinations and solutions preparations using weight and volume equivalents in both the metric and apothecary systems and has a registered pharmacist check prior to use for preparation of product.
  • Operate automatic technology, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist (Pyxis, computers, unit dose machines, etc.)
  • Issue controlled substances, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law.
  • Follow USP 795, USP 797, and USP 800 standards.
  • Prepare all IV admixtures using aseptic technique.
  • Calibrate and prime line for repeater pump device.
  • Identify correct medication from label and fills using proper drug and solution.
  • Record all IV admixtures using the IV compounding log using the MedKeeper System.
  • Perform cleaning of IV/sterile compounding room between each shift (using Peridox RTU, sterile water, and alcohol)
  • Record refrigerator and room temperatures/pressures per USP 797 guidelines using MedKeeper System.
  • Remove expired medications from Pyxis and Main Pharmacy Stock.
  • Dispose of compounding supplies per EPA and Pharmaceutical Waste Guidelines for hazardous and non-hazardous drugs (red, blue, yellow, black, and common waste receptacles)
  • Deliver STAT and Routine medications to the Pyxis and patient-specific medication bins.
  • Maintain District of Columbia Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Collect data, conduct inspections, and maintain logs and other documentation as assigned.
  • Prepare and/or restock Code Cart Trays for the Inpatient Hospital units.
  • Prepare emergency and RSI kits for the ED, ICU, and the Radiology/Oncology Clinic.
  • Perform other job duties/assignments as assigned.

Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician in the District of Columbia.
  • Minimum one year experience as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Associate's Degree from an accredited Technical School, College or University preferred.
