Job summary

Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX seeks an experienced Surgical Technician to support operating room procedures. You will assist surgeons, pass instruments, maintain sterile technique, and prepare/clean rooms between operations.

Requires completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program or equivalent experience with CST or LVN certification; BLS training must be completed during orientation. Join a team dedicated to high-quality perioperative care.

Qualifications

• Completion of accredited Surgical Technician program or documented proof of prior surgical technologist employment.
• Current CST certification or equivalent nursing credential; LVN acceptable with proof of employment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification required before working in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Passes instruments on procedures and acts as an assistant; holds retractors as needed.
• Practice aseptic technique to maintain sterile fields.
• Assist in room preparation prior to surgery and clean the room afterward.
• Ensure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available for procedures; coordinate with staff and surgeons.
• Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific needs of patients and participate in cost containment in the OR.

Passes instruments on all procedures or acts as an assistant and hold retractors as needed. Practices aseptic technique. Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning room after surgery. Assists staff and surgeons to insure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available when needed for surgical procedures. Has two (2) years experience in the Operating Room as a scrub tech. Works in instrument room as needed. Takes assigned call as required. Exhibits knowledge of age specific needs of patients of all psychosocial, and/or cultural backgrounds. Integrally involved and participates with cost containment issues in the Operating Room.

Qualifications

Requires the completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program or the candidate must provide documented proof of previous (before September 1, 2009) employment as a surgical technologist.

Must have current CST certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before September 1, 2009. BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting.

Must be able to read and comprehend information related to perioperative operations within the job class. Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft windows. Communicate effectively, identify and address the special needs of patients of all age groups.
