Job summary

Universal Health Services is seeking an OR Technician to support the surgical team by handling instruments, maintaining aseptic technique, and assisting surgeons during procedures.

The role requires an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST or TS-C) or documentation of prior surgical technologist employment, plus BLS certification. You will prepare the operating room and participate in cost containment in the OR.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST or TS-C) or documented proof of prior employment as a surgical technologist before Sept 1, 2009.
• Current CST or TS-C certification or LVN status or evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a health care facility before Sept 1, 2009.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider required during new hire orientation.

Responsibilities

• Passes instruments and assists surgeons during procedures.
• Maintains aseptic technique throughout operations.
• Prepares operating room before surgery and cleans room after procedures.
• Ensures instruments, supplies and equipment are available when needed and takes assigned call.

Responsibilities

The OR Tech is responsible for knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites. Passes instruments on all procedures or acts as an assistant and hold retractors as needed. Practices aseptic technique. Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning room after surgery. Assists staff and surgeons to insure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available when needed for surgical procesures. Has two (2) years experience in the Operating Room as a scrub tech. Works in instrument room as needed. Takes assigned call as required. Exhibits knowledge of age specific needs of patients of all psychosocial, and/or cultural backgrounds. Integrally involved and participates with cost containment issues in the Operating Room.

Qualifications

Requires the completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST or TS-C) or the candidate must provide documented proof of previous (before September 1, 2009) employment as a surgical technologist

Must have current CST or TS-C certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before September 1, 2009. BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting

Must be able to read and comprehend information related to perioperative operations within the job class. Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft windows. Communicate effectively, identify and address the special needs of patients of all age groups.
