Job summary

Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX is seeking a Surgical Technologist (OR Tech) with CST or TS-C certification or documented prior experience. You will assist in the operating room, pass instruments, and maintain aseptic technique.

The role requires prep and cleaning of rooms, and support for surgeons and staff in a fast-paced perioperative environment. Two years of OR experience or certified training provides the foundation for this critical role.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST/TS-C) or documented prior employment as a surgical technologist before 2009.
• Current CST or TS-C certification or equivalent surgical technologist experience in a health-care facility.
• Ability to read and comprehend perioperative information; basic computer literacy; effective communication across age groups.

Responsibilities

The OR Tech is responsible for knowledge of anatomy and physiology of surgical sites. Passes instruments on all procedures or acts as an assistant and hold retractors as needed. Practices aseptic technique. Assist in preparation of room prior to surgery and cleaning room after surgery. Assists staff and surgeons to insure instruments, supplies, and equipment are available when needed for surgical procesures. Has two (2) years experience in the Operating Room as a scrub tech. Works in instrument room as needed. Takes assigned call as required. Exhibits knowledge of age specific needs of patients of all psychosocial, and/or cultural backgrounds. Integrally involved and participates with cost containment issues in the Operating Room.

Qualifications

• Requires the completion of an accredited Surgical Technician program (CST or TS-C) or the candidate must provide documented proof of previous (before September 1, 2009) employment as a surgical technologist
• Must have current CST or TS-C certification or be a LVN or provide proof of employment as a practicing surgical technologist in a health care facility before September 1, 2009. BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting
• Must be able to read and comprehend information related to perioperative operations within the job class. Minimum computer literacy in keyboarding and Microsoft windows. Communicate effectively, identify and address the special needs of patients of all age groups.
