Job summary

Spring Mountain Treatment Center, a part of Universal Health Services, in Las Vegas, NV, seeks a dedicated Mental Health Tech (MHT) to support inpatient psychiatric care and ensure a safe, therapeutic milieu for adults, teens, and children.

The MHT will interact daily with patients, document observations, assist with activities of daily living, and support nurses and therapists in educational and rehabilitative activities. Strong communication and vigilance are essential for patient safety.

Qualifications

• Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of experience in a psychiatric setting/patient care.
• Must obtain BLS Basic Life Support certification.
• New hires attend 1 full week of New Employee Orientation on day shift.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for conducting safety checks and ensuring supervision at 15-minute intervals per precautions or guidelines.
• Interact with patients, observe behaviors, and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
• Demonstrate urgency regarding patient safety and provide excellent customer service.
• Document timely, accurate clinical information in the patient’s medical record.
• Ensure well-being of patients and provide a positive, structured environment.
• Facilitate educational-rehabilitative groups covering social skills, coping skills, anger management, and independent living skills.
• May assist patients with activities of daily living (toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, meals, hydration, changing linens).
• May obtain vitals, height, and weight and document in the patient record.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Spring Mountain Treatment Center is a 110-bed mental health facility providing acute crisis stabilization services for adults, teens, and children in a secure inpatient setting since 2001. Our individualized treatment includes a structured, therapeutic environment, intensive physician involvement and oversight, and daily group and educational programs. We provide a caring and healthy environment that gives individuals a chance to make positive changes.

We are currently seeking a dynamic professional to join our team as a full-time Mental Health Tech (MHT). The Mental Health Tech (MHT) is the clinical staff member who has interaction with patients on a daily basis. They present good communication and observation skills as well as the ability to accurately process and document information. The MHT provides structure and safety to the milieu environment as directed by hospital and unit procedures and manages patient behavior effectively. The MHT instructs, assists, and supervises patients in activities of daily living and provides services that support nurses, teachers, activity therapists, and other departments in various activities.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

• Responsible for conducting safety checks and ensuring that supervision is conducted at 15-minute intervals, as noted in special precautions, or in accordance with individualized supervision guidelines as needed.
• Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
• Demonstrate a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and provide excellent customer services.
• Document timely, accurate and appropriate clinical information in patient's medical record.
• Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment.
• Facilitate patient educational-rehabilitative groups which cover a variety of topics including social skills, coping skills, anger management and independent living skills.
• May oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration and changing bed linens.
• May obtain patient's vital signs, height and weight as assigned and document in patient record.
• Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.

• Good communication skills, i.e., reading, writing, and speaking.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
• Good leadership qualities which includes self-control, patience, and empathy.
• Obtain BLS Basic Life Support certification.
• New hires are required to attend 1 full week of New Employee Orientation on day shift, normally 8:00 am - 4:30 pm Monday through Friday.
• Must successfully pass background check (includes criminal history, Child Abuse and Neglect Registry, and ABI/FBI fingerprint check).
• Must successfully complete RQI BLS training and obtain required BLS certification.
