The Technical Services Manager position is based in the Herndon, VA office. The TSM is responsible for all technical management of Continental Building Product’s (CBP) portfolio of products through strategic planning, analytics and rationalization. The TSM also represents CBP as the expert in the field of gypsum (fire and sound ratings, building code issues, etc.) and is therefore responsible for the technical support to sales and customers of new and existing products. This includes statistical tracking and trend analysis of our product quality results and process, fielding technical product inquiries, competitor benchmarking, and working closely with Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, Logistics, Finance, Purchasing and the Sales Service Group to ensure revenue targets are met and customer satisfaction goals are exceeded. The TSM is the technical representative for all product application issues both internal and external.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and provide Marketing Department and Executive Team with competitive intelligence and benchmarking on market and technological trends to help determine product development roadmap.
  • Monitor competitors’ patent activity and intellectual property to ensure awareness and development of competing and/or innovative solutions.
  • Bring new products to market by developing product requirements and product development plans, preparing return‑on‑investment analyses, and establishing time schedules with Manufacturing, Sales & Marketing.
  • Provide ongoing product family technical analysis and marketing to maximize the CBP brand preference versus our competition.
  • Develop and deliver new product training content and materials to internal and external customers.
  • Serve as the proactive/reactive communication lead for all internal (Sales, Sales Service, Logistics, and Marketing) and external (Customers, Architects, Contractors, Homeowners, etc.) technical product support inquiries related to the field application of our products within the building envelope.
  • Work cross‑functionally with the Architectural Services Team on the projects tracking process to ensure the “sell‑in” of new products, assess competitive offers, stay abreast of market pricing, and achieve the annual business plan.
  • Work with external third parties to assess gypsum or gypsum‑related product partnerships and licensing opportunities.
  • Participate in the organization of AIA, AWCI, Green Build and other tradeshows in coordination with other divisions to maximize promotion of gypsum products and solutions.
  • Represent Continental interests at ASTM and GA technical committees.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal staff, contractors/partners on addressing program or residential construction needs or issues both remotely or onsite.
  • Provide in‑house or on‑site technical training to trade allies and internal staff as required.
  • Participate with manufacturing in the quality assurance technical review of submitted project documentation to verify that all specifications comply with applicable industry and program requirements.
Desired Skills and Experience

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Building Sciences or equivalent required, or combination of degree and relevant experience.
  • 3 years’ experience directly working on a variety of high‑performance building projects, including LEED projects.
  • Knowledge of Canadian code and regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Field experience within Building Materials required.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills of using product management tools: market and product business plans and timelines, marketing research, financial models and capital budgeting.
  • Proven ability to influence cross‑functional teams without formal authority.
  • LEED AP preferred.
  • Professional and active membership to technical committees (TBD) preferred.
