Job description

Our client is a US marketing agency based in Arizona. Their in-house reporting platform is already live and in daily use: it pulls campaign data from Meta, GA4 and Google Ads, normalizes it, and turns it into the reporting their team and their clients depend on.

This is a deliberate hybrid. You stay deep in the codebase, writing production React and Node every week. You also own the delivery side: translating business goals into a phased roadmap, running sprint and release planning, reviewing pull requests, setting engineering standards, and unblocking the other developers so work keeps moving. What you do not carry is the corporate HR load. No hiring, no firing, no formal performance reviews. Full ownership over the code and the schedule, and nothing else bolted on.

It takes a different level of trust than a normal senior engineering seat. You are the most senior technical voice in the room, working largely on your own clock, with an ocean between you and the people who set the business goals. There is no engineering manager above you to catch a bad architectural call. What you merge at 2:00 AM your time is what the client-facing team and their clients see when they log in.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Code Management

  • Maintain and architect the core systems behind the live reporting dashboard and the platform extensions that follow it.
  • Hold the line on code quality and maintainability by setting engineering standards and leading pull request reviews.
  • Mentor team members, distribute technical tasks, and actively unblock developers so execution stays smooth.

Product Strategy & Timeline Ownership

  • Guide the product roadmap timeline, turning business objectives into clear, phased engineering milestones.
  • Lead sprint and release planning, balancing technical debt, background optimization and new feature rollouts against each other.
  • Work directly with product leadership to define feature scope, requirements and technical boundaries.

Hands-On Development

  • Build user-facing features such as saved reports, PDF export, email scheduling and widget customization.
  • Integrate and maintain external data pipelines (Meta Ads, GA4, Google Ads) with robust metrics normalization and caching.
  • Optimize scheduling logic (cron), async background jobs and queueing architecture for heavy data-processing workflows.
  • Lead the expansion into broader operational modules: content approvals, automated onboarding workflows, client self-serve portals and AI features.

Frontend

  • React 19 and Next.js (App Router) in production.
  • TailwindCSS, Zustand and React Query.
  • Component systems such as Radix UI and shadcn/ui.
  • Responsive layout, drag-and-drop UI and animation polish.

Backend & Infrastructure

  • Node.js API routes written in TypeScript.
  • Prisma ORM with PostgreSQL (hosted on Neon).
  • Background jobs (cron, ioredis) and Redis queues.
  • In-house session-based authentication and role access logic.
  • Third-party API management across Meta, GA4 and Google Ads, including token refresh and retry logic.
  • Vercel for hosting and Redis for async processing.
  • PDF generation (puppeteer-core, sharp) and email delivery through Resend.
  • AWS S3 SDK integration for secure uploads.
  • A strong, current AI skillset.

Workflow & Leadership

  • Outstanding written communication in async environments, and the ability to manage timelines without micromanaging anyone.
  • Exceptional structural alignment: a proven ability to protect deep-work coding blocks while still running active project planning.
  • Strategic use of modern AI tools (Copilot, GPT and similar) to accelerate engineering output and debug complex workflows.
  • Exceptionally clean, modular, self-documenting code.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience moving from senior engineering into a Tech Lead, Team Lead or Technical Product Owner role.
  • Experience architecting internal administrative dashboards, agency operations tooling or multi-tenant reporting platforms.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing metrics, attribution logic or social analytics.
  • Comfort operating in an autonomous, fast-moving, early-stage team environment.
Tools & Software
  • Primary platform: React 19, Next.js (App Router), TypeScript, Node.js
  • Data & storage: PostgreSQL on Neon, Prisma ORM, Redis (ioredis), AWS S3
  • Frontend system: TailwindCSS, Zustand, React Query, Radix UI, shadcn/ui
  • Integrations: Meta Ads API, GA4 Data API, Google Ads API
  • Delivery & output: Vercel, cron and Redis queues, puppeteer-core, sharp, Resend
  • AI tooling: GitHub Copilot, GPT-class assistants used deliberately in the engineering workflow
  • Working tools: MS Teams, OneDrive, Hubstaff
What Makes You a Great Fit
  • You have already made the jump from "strong senior engineer" to "the person the team asks first," and you did not stop writing code when you did.
  • You can hold a roadmap and a codebase in your head at the same time, and you can say out loud which feature is slipping and why, before anyone asks.
  • You write pull request comments that make the next developer better, not smaller.
  • You are calm about third-party APIs behaving badly, because you have already been paged by one.
  • You treat a client's data as something that must never appear in front of another client, and you can explain exactly how you enforce that.
  • You use AI tools heavily and you still read every line before you merge it.
  • You are comfortable being the most senior technical person in the room and saying "I do not know yet, here is how I will find out."
What We Offer
  • Starting at $12/hour, based on experience
  • 100% remote work
  • Full-time role
