Job summary

First Citizens Bank is seeking a highly experienced Technical Lead to shape our Consumer and Business Digital Banking platform. This remote role leads multiple engineering teams and drives architecture, platform strategy, and delivery in a cloud-native, API-first environment.

You will mentor engineers, define roadmaps, and champion DevSecOps, observability, and scalable microservices. Familiarity with React, Java, Kafka, Kubernetes, and domain-oriented designs is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and 8 years' experience in Technical work in Application Development, Server Administration, Information Security, or Engineering.
• 10+ years software engineering experience.
• 5+ years technical leadership experience in banking, fintech, payments, or regulated industries.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction across multiple Agile product teams delivering customer-facing digital banking capabilities.
• Serve as the primary technical advisor for engineering managers, architects, product leaders, and delivery teams.
• Drive delivery of scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available banking solutions.

We are seeking a highly experienced, hands-on Technical Lead to help shape the future of our Consumer and Business Digital Banking platform. This role operates at the intersection of software engineering, architecture, platform strategy, and delivery execution. The successful candidate will lead multiple engineering teams in building modern customer experiences powered by composable frontend frameworks, cloud-native technologies, API-first architectures, event-driven systems, and engineering excellence principles.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction across multiple Agile product teams delivering customer-facing digital banking capabilities.
• Serve as the primary technical advisor for engineering managers, architects, product leaders, and delivery teams.
• Drive delivery of scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available banking solutions.
• Guide technical roadmaps, platform evolution, and modernization initiatives.
  
  

Technical Leadership

• Conduct architecture reviews, design reviews, and code reviews.
• Mentor engineers and foster engineering ownership and accountability.
• Resolve complex technical challenges spanning multiple domains and teams.
  
  

Architecture & Platform Strategy

• Champion API-first, event-driven, and domain-oriented architectures.
• Design microservices-based solutions and integration strategies.
• Define target-state capabilities across identity, customer onboarding, customer profile, payments, notifications, entitlements, and digital engagement.
• Partner with enterprise architecture teams to establish long-term platform standards.
  
  

Engineering Excellence

• Drive adoption of DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and SRE practices.
• Establish engineering metrics focused on quality, stability, velocity, and customer outcomes.
• Improve reliability, scalability, resiliency, and operational excellence.
  
  

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 8 years' experience OR High School Diploma or GED/Equivalent and 12 years' experience in Technical work in Application Development, Server Administration, Information Security, or Engineering

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years software engineering experience.
• 5+ years technical leadership experience in banking, fintech, payments, or regulated industries.
• Experience modernizing large-scale customer-facing digital platforms.
• Strong communication and executive stakeholder management skills.
