Job Title: Tech Lead (Data Center Engineer)
Location: Rochelle, IL
Duration: Long-term Contract
Note
- Flex schedule Tuesday-Saturday for 3-4 weeks/month, Monday-Friday 1-2 weeks a month depending on blackout windows.
- Weekdays will be heavily 8am-4:30pm schedule, weekends will be based on change schedules for specific activities (e.g., Friday night or Saturday morning/afternoon).
- Be part of on-call rotation and able to come to either site for high-priority incidents as needed.
Qualifications (must haves):
- 3+ years as a data center engineer
- Expert knowledge in cabling and structured cabling infrastructure
- Experience working within ITSM and change management standards
- Knowledge of data center power and cooling
- Excellent communication skills and professional customer service
Nice to Have:
- Experience with DCIM tools (particularly Device42) and ServiceNow
- Ability to utilize advanced test equipment for layer 1 troubleshooting (e.g., Fluke Versiv, Viavi, OTDR)
- Residence within one hour of each data center location
- RCDD certification
Top 3-5 IT Skillsets/Experience:
- Planning deployments and physical cabling migrations within a larger/corporate data center
- Low voltage cabling standards and troubleshooting
- Basic understanding of core data center network technologies and topologies
- Operating within change management standards (particularly Service Requests, Incidents, and Changes)
- Project planning with minimal guidance, operating independently
Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Troubleshooting cabling, power, and cooling devices within an enterprise data center
- Creating and following documentation and processes for installation and cabling
- Validating installations for successful outcomes
- Interfacing with vendors and contractors via ticketing systems
- Packing/unpacking servers, hardware, and related equipment
- Developing innovative solutions to streamline processes
- Ensuring timely receipt and documentation of equipment
- Managing projects independently and owning project work for internal applications and infrastructure
- Participating in on-call schedule, able to respond to site issues to meet SLA
- Flexibility for unplanned off-hour incidents and emergency changes
- Building bills of materials, coordinating with vendors and procurement
- Designing and executing solutions for data center hardware and systems
- Coordinating with facility management on maintenance of critical systems (UPS, generators, cooling)
- Attending engineering meetings
