Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to assemble instrument trays, decontaminate equipment, and sterilize supplies for surgical procedures.

Requirements: High School Diploma or GED, at least two years in sterile processing, and CRCST or CSPDT certification. Schedule: 6am–2:30pm on-site in Needham Heights, MA. A sign-on bonus of $8,500 is offered. This role supports the operating room and SPD teams with a focus on safety and workflow.

Responsibilities

• Transports and restocks surgical instrumentation and materials within surgical suites and SPD.
• Receives, sorts, cleans, and decontaminates soiled instruments and logs items.
• Operates and maintains washers, reprocessors, and pasteurizers.
• Inspects, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments following guidelines.
• Loads and monitors sterilizers to ensure safe operation.
• Addresses inquiries and directs complex issues to supervisors.
• Provides leadership in the absence of senior staff and prioritizes daily work.
• Completes daily shift reports to maintain workflow.

Position Summary

Assembles instrument trays for surgical procedures using computerized count sheets and processes instrumentation for sterilization and distribution.

Key Responsibilities

• Transports and restocks surgical instrumentation and medical materials within surgical suites and SPD according to departmental policies.
• Receives, sorts, cleans, and decontaminates soiled reusable instruments and equipment, manually logging items received.
• Operates and maintains cleaning and decontamination equipment such as washers, reprocessors, and pasteurizers.
• Inspects, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes surgical instruments and materials, following standardized lists and manufacturer guidelines.
• Loads, programs, and monitors sterilizers during sterilization cycles to ensure proper operation and safety.
• Manages telephone communications, providing routine information and directing complex inquiries to supervisors.
• Provides departmental leadership in the absence of senior staff, organizing daily operations and prioritizing work to meet clinical needs.
• Addresses customer requests, resolves issues, and completes daily shift reports to maintain smooth department workflow.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma/GED required
• Experience: Minimum of two years of experience in Sterile Processing required
• Licensure/ Certifications: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) OR certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
