Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician to assemble instrument trays and process instrumentation for sterilization and distribution. You will transport instruments between surgical suites and the Sterile Processing Department, restock core areas, and ensure accurate decontamination and sterilization per guidelines.

The role requires handling decontamination machinery, inspecting and packaging trays, and maintaining documentation.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CRCST or CSPDT certification required within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Restocks surgical core areas with sterilized instruments per guidelines.
• Receives, sorts, and decontaminates soiled instruments using logs and cleaning equipment.
• Operates decontamination machinery such as washers and endoscope reprocessors.
• Inspects, assembles, and sterilizes instrument trays and supply packets according to lists and guidelines.
• Operates sterilizers, sets programs, and monitors data during cycles.
• Answers departmental calls, forwards messages, and provides routine information.

Position Summary:

processes instrumentation for sterilization and distribution.
Key Responsibilities:

• Transports surgical instruments and medical materials between the surgical suites and Sterile Processing Department (SPD) following departmental procedures.
• Restocks surgical core areas with sterilized instruments per department guidelines.
• Receives, sorts, and decontaminates soiled instruments and equipment using manual logs and various cleaning equipment.
• Operates decontamination machinery such as automatic washers, cart washers, and endoscope reprocessors.
• Inspects, assembles, and sterilizes surgical instrument trays and medical supply packets according to standard lists and manufacturer guidelines.
• Operates sterilizers, sets appropriate programs, and monitors critical data during sterilization cycles.
• Answers departmental phone calls, forwards messages, and provides routine information, escalating complex queries when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:

• High School Diploma/GED required

Licensure/ Certifications:

• Certification as a Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) is required upon hire or within one year from the hire date OR Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) required upon hire or within one year from the hire date.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
