Responsibilities
- Under direct supervision, uses the PACS system to transmit and print/burn CDs of patient imaging studies.
- Transports and assists patients; lifts and moves patients; files x‑ray jackets.
- Performs routine clerical duties: prepares charts for interventional procedures, obtains patient demographics and financial data, and enters the information into the computer system.
- Provides necessary patient preparation for procedures.
- Works with radiologists and nurses to schedule interventional cases.
- Prepares and processes initial paperwork and identification bands.
- Schedules exams for multiple modalities (PT/CT, CT, MRI, NM, US, Angio, X‑ray, Mammo).
- Obtains authorizations and provides billing codes for physician’s office; assesses medical necessity for Medicare patients.
- Obtains required signatures and collects copies of insurance, Medicare, and medical cards.
- Communicates friendly and professional on phone; answers calls with prompting and courtesy.
- Interviews, pre‑registers, and screens patients for imaging studies, entering data into ITS and Meditech.
- Coordinates child/adult sedation under anesthesiology with the surgery scheduling department.
- Reviews DI orders for the following day to verify order coincides with scheduled exam.
- Manages scheduling for technologist and radiologist for CT, US, PET/CT, and MRI.
- Greets, registers, obtains insurance and identification cards; determines primary and secondary payor.
- Initiates and explains required documents, consents, and registration demographics; obtains signatures.
- May transport patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or walking; may assist patients by lifting and moving them off and onto the X‑ray table.
Skills
- Schedules exams with MD office: obtains authorization and DI order; provides CPT and ICD‑9 codes for Medicare patients.
- Interviews, pre‑registers, and screens patients for PET/CT, MRI, US, and CT, ensuring accurate demographic information.
- Initiates and explains required documents and consents; obtains signatures.
Education
High school education or GED.
Licensure
Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards.
Experience
Two to four years of recent scheduling experience in PT/CT, Angio, CT, US, MRI, and X‑ray is required. Medical terminology is strongly preferred.
