Job summary

Glenmont Job Corps Center seeks a TEAP Counselor (CASAC-T or CASAC) to provide substance-use education, prevention, early intervention, counseling, and support to young adults pursuing education and career goals.

You will screen and assess student needs, deliver individual and group sessions, develop individualized support plans, coordinate with center teams, and maintain confidential documentation in line with HIPAA and Job Corps policies.

What Does a TEAP Counselor Do?Students come to Job Corps with different backgrounds, experiences, challenges, and goals.Sometimes substance use or other personal challenges can become barriers to their success.That's where you come in.As the TEAP Counselor, you'll work with students to identify concerns early, provide appropriate support and education, and help them develop strategies that allow them to stay focused on their goals.Your work can play an important role in helping a student move from:\"I'm struggling.\"to\"I have a plan, support, and tools to move forward.\" What You'll Do Screen & Assess Student NeedsYou'll meet with students to better understand their individual circumstances and determine what level of support may be appropriate.This may include:Conducting substance-use screeningsCompleting assessments and intakesIdentifying potential risk factors or concernsDetermining appropriate interventionsReferring students for additional services when needed Provide Individual & Group SupportYou'll provide counseling and guidance focused on substance-use prevention, education, early intervention, healthy decision-making, and student success.Depending on student needs, you may work individually with a student or facilitate group sessions.You'll help students explore topics such as: Healthy coping strategies Understanding triggers and behaviors Communication and decision-making Goal setting Personal wellness Substance-use prevention Building healthier habits Staying focused on education and career goals️ Make Education EngagingNot every conversation has to feel like a lecture.You'll have opportunities to lead workshops, groups, educational sessions, and classroom-style presentations that help students better understand substance use, wellness, prevention, and healthy choices.We're looking for someone who can take important information and make it relatable, understandable, and meaningful to young adults. Create Individualized Support PlansEvery student's situation is different.You'll help develop individualized plans based on each student's needs, challenges, and goals.You'll:Establish appropriate goals with studentsMonitor their progressDocument interventions and servicesFollow up regularlyAdjust support when neededConnect students with additional resourcesCollaborate with other professionals involved in the student's successThe goal is not simply to identify a problem.It's to help the student develop a realistic path forward. You'll Be Part of a Student Support TeamYou won't be doing this work alone.You'll collaborate with Health & Wellness staff, Counseling, Residential Living, Center leadership, and other departments to make sure students receive coordinated support.When additional services are needed, you'll help connect students with appropriate on-Center or community resources.Strong communication and teamwork are important because student success often requires multiple departments working together.️ Help Maintain a Safe & Drug-Free EnvironmentThe TEAP Counselor also plays an important role in supporting Job Corps' drug-free environment.Depending on program requirements, responsibilities may include:Supporting the Center's drug-testing programMonitoring required follow-upProviding prevention and intervention servicesEducating students about program expectationsMaintaining appropriate documentationHelping students understand the connection between healthy choices and their education, employment, and futureYou'll balance support with accountability, helping students understand both the expectations of the program and the resources available to help them succeed.
