Overall Job Summary

This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives, and performing assigned tasks while providing legendary customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Team Member, it is essential to be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented. You must be able to fulfill the following requirements:

• Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
• Work scheduled shifts, including varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
  • Thank the customer
  • Engage with the customer and/or pet
  • Advise on products or services
  • Make the experience memorable
• Perform a variety of duties including:
  • Operate cash register following cash handling procedures
  • Recover merchandise
  • Participate in freight processing
  • Complete merchandising resets and plan-o-grams
  • Assemble merchandise
  • Perform janitorial duties
  • Execute price changes and markdowns
  • Assist customers with loading
  • Ensure safety and care of live animals, including sanitizing tanks and maintaining their well-being
  • Complete all related documentation
• Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Experience: No experience required; retail and pet/live animal knowledge preferred.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required. Ability to read, write, and count accurately is necessary.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

• Pet/live animal, pet food, and product knowledge
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Basic computer skills
• Interpersonal skills and ethical issue resolution with minimal conflict

Working Conditions

• Indoor environment with moderate noise
• Hard surfaces, adequate lighting and temperature
• Shifts generally no less than 4 hours, may exceed 8 hours
• Promote safety and adhere to safety guidelines

Physical Requirements

• Non-sedentary; require mobility throughout the store and outdoor areas
• Operate equipment safely and efficiently
• Occasionally lift or reach overhead
• Stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, climb ladders throughout shift
• Move throughout store for entire shift
• Access all store areas safely
• Operate store equipment
• Read, write, and count accurately
• Communicate effectively
• Process merchandise and operate POS system
• Lift and transfer items up to 50 pounds
• Complete training and certifications
