Overall Job Summary:

This position is responsible for interacting with customers and team members, supporting selling initiatives, and performing assigned tasks while providing legendary customer service.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Min 5%)

As a Team Member, it is essential that you be available, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented. You must be able to fulfill all of the following requirements:

1. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
2. Work scheduled shifts and have the ability to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as dictated by business needs.
3. Support selling initiatives (TEAM):
   1. Thank the Customer
   2. Engage with the customer and/or pet
   3. Advise on products or services
   4. Make it Memorable
4. Perform a combination of duties during 95% of your day, including:
   1. Operate cash register/computer following cash handling procedures
   2. Merchandise recovery
   3. Participate in freight process
   4. Complete Plan-o-gram procedures
   5. Assemble merchandise
   6. Perform janitorial duties
   7. Execute price changes/markdowns
   8. Assist customers with loading purchases
   9. Ensure the safety and well-being of live animals, sanitize and maintain holding tanks, and care for live animals as required
   10. Complete all related documentation
5. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Experience: No experience required. Retail experience and/or pet/live animal knowledge is strongly preferred.

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Must be able to read, write, and count accurately regardless of education level.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

• Pet/live animal, pet food, pet product knowledge is strongly preferred.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict.

Working Conditions

• Generally working inside with moderate noise.
• Indoor floors and outdoor lots are hard surfaces; lighting and temperature are adequate.
• Work shifts vary, generally no less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours.
• Promote a safe and productive work environment and adhere to safety guidelines.

Physical Requirements

• This position is non-sedentary.
• Must have the stamina and ability to move throughout the store and outdoor areas quickly and safely.
• Operate all related equipment efficiently and safely.
• Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead.
• Frequently stand, kneel, twist, crouch, squat, bend, stoop, and climb ladders.
• Move throughout the store for an entire shift.
• Safely access all store areas.
• Operate store equipment such as computers and cash registers.
• Read, write, and count accurately for documentation.
• Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
• Process information and merchandise through the POS system.
• Transfer merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds and move live animals and equipment.
• Complete all required training and certification.
