Job summary

Garmin Ltd. is seeking a full-time Team Leader Software Engineering in the Greater Denver area. You will direct and coordinate a Software Engineering team responsible for software development for a product or family of products.

You will lead engineers, technicians, project managers, and quality engineers, drive design reviews, create development plans, and ensure milestones are met while mentoring and coaching the team. This role requires strong leadership and technical depth in C/C++/C#/Java.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or 10 years of relevant experience.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher (as a general rule).
  • Proficiency with high-level languages C, C++, C#, and/or Java.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Leadership or mentorship experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a Software Engineering team and coordinate activities across roles.
  • Coordinate and participate in generating software requirements and designs.
  • Participate in design reviews and promote best practices.
  • Create product development plans and track milestones.
  • Monitor progress to meet product requirements and schedules.
  • Provide coaching, training, and mentoring to team members.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and evaluating performance.

Job description

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Team Leader Software Engineering at Garmin's location in the Greater Denver area. In this role, you will be responsible for directing and coordinating activities of a Software Engineering team that is responsible for software development for a product or family of products.

Essential Functions
  • Lead a team of Software Engineers, and/or Software Technicians, Software Project Managers, and/or Software Quality Engineers with diverse capability levels in the design of new products, enhancement of existing designs, and development of test procedures
  • Coordinate and participate in generating software requirements and designs for a product or family of products in accordance with Garmin's software development methodology
  • Participate in software design reviews as necessary, assuring proper attendees and proper coverage of topics, imparting lessons learned and good design practices to all who attend
  • Create product development plans as directed by engineering management
  • Ensure the team meets overall development goals in accordance with the product development plan or market requirements and ensure project milestones are met
  • Monitor progress of the software teams in meeting product requirements and schedule compliance
  • Directly supervise various levels of software team members by setting the tone for the team environment and providing individualized coaching, training and mentoring
  • Participate in recruiting activities, interview, hire, train, and evaluate performance for the team
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR a minimum of 10 years relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Must possess detailed knowledge and experience with high level language structure in C, C++, C# and/or Java relevant to Garmin's business needs
  • Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and lead in a fast paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Previous leadership or mentorship experience
Desired Qualifications
  • Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
  • Previous software engineering leadership experience
