About The Role:

Job Overview:
The Team Leader is responsible for the coordination of the production process in which they operate, providing first line supervision including managing attendance and performance of the team and individuals within the team.At all times, the Team Leader will manage and, if necessary, be involved into all day to day activities in adherence to all departmental procedures in a timely manner to ensure that production process is never compromised.Additionally, the Team Leader is expected to work flexibly across the Newsprinters operations and as part of a team to meet the business needs. The Team Leader is expected to promote, support and implement business strategy and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:

Will be supporting the Senior Supervisor to ensure all aspects of NPHL Business Management System are completed, maintained and adhered to. This includes among others:

  • Management and Leadership
  • Quality
  • Environmental
  • Health & Safety

Production

  • Work with Supervision to control, manage and review the production process for which they are accountable, ensuring that all departmental standards and procedures are always adhered to.
  • Maintain identified levels of production performance and support the teams to achieve their performance targets.
  • Manage the team holidays and break cover appropriately whilst ensuring that production requirements are always met.
  • Facilitate multi-skilling needs within all operations.
  • Provide assistance, advice and support to the teams, including management of materials, records, workplace information, monitoring and maintenance of cleanliness standards to equipment and work areas.

Quality

  • Ensure that departmental quality standards are achieved and maintained.
  • Oversee and be responsible for the housekeeping of the working areas and supervise a professional work area at all times.
  • Ensure that each designated team member performs all quality checks as required and to adhere to any new changes to this as and when required. This includes periodical copy checks, cover price changes and editions.

  • Assist and support in identifying, organise and planning any training and development needs for the teams.

    Assist with the effective personal and professional development plans for all individuals with the team.

    Attend any training and development activities to support learning in the role.

  • Will drive the principles of team working to gain maximum efficiency and flexibility.
Skills Required:
  • Experience of leading a team to produce high quality output to demanding quantitative targets.
  • Excellent team working skills and ability to integrate with both OCS employees and business partners at all times.
  • Flexibility – Ability to move between areas (training permitting) to meet the needs of the business.
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Must be computer literate.
  • Able to use statistics to report on production output and quality.
  • Ability to present information clearly.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of production systems and output.
  • Ability to demonstrate problem solving, decision making skills and where appropriate, delegation skills.
  • Ability to manage & co-ordinate the activities of those within the team.
  • Confident communicator.
  • Ability to share knowledge with others.
  • Self-motivated and an ability to work on own initiative, whilst leading and motivating a team.
  • Has experience in dealing with potentially sensitive or difficult situations.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and experienced at working to meet tight deadlines.
  • Mechanical appreciation of equipment and moving parts.
  • Ability to work safely
  • Ideally holds qualifications associated with the position.
