Team Leader Psychiatric Technician, Unit F Fresh Start

Full Time, 72 hours per pay period, Night Shift

Offering inpatient (https://www.peninsulabehavioralhealth.org/inpatient-services/) and outpatient (https://www.peninsulabehavioralhealth.org/outpatient/) services for children, adolescents, and adults, Peninsula is a leader in the changing healthcare environment. The hospital is located in Blount County, with outpatient centers in Knox, Blount, Loudon, and Sevier Counties. Additionally, Peninsula provides specialized care for seniors with co-existing psychiatric and medical conditions at the Senior Behavioral Center located at Parkwest Medical Center (http://www.treatedwell.com/). Unit F:

The Child & Adolescent Unit is a 25-bed facility serving children and adolescents aged 4-18 with attention-deficit, impulse control, self-destructive, emotional difficulties, and other behavioral issues. Staff work closely with patients and families throughout the brief stay to help interrupt negative behaviors and promote recovery. Opportunities exist to work across different units, engaging with various patient populations. The care team includes psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, therapists, discharge planners, registered nurses, psychiatric technicians, and others collaborating on comprehensive treatment plans. The unit creates a 6-week schedule, released two weeks prior, with staff preferences considered when aligned with staffing needs.

Position Summary:

Provides quality patient care by giving direction, support, and guidance to the Psychiatric Technician in daily operations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Meet regularly with the Nurse Manager for supervision, planning, and consultation on program and personnel issues.
  2. Assist in communicating with hospital departments to coordinate treatment activities.
  3. Help schedule staff and ensure adequate coverage.
  4. Maintain compliance with regulatory standards, including licensure and Joint Commission accreditation.
  5. Facilitate virtual court processes and communicate with staff accordingly.
  6. Report employee performance concerns and assist in evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  7. Participate in meetings with Nursing Leadership to discuss program issues.
  8. Assist with bed management and patient flow.
  9. Provide guidance to Psychiatric Technicians in staff and patient interactions.
  10. Assist with patient transfers between units.
  11. Oversee roles and responsibilities of Psychiatric Technicians.
  12. Demonstrate therapeutic communication skills and support the therapeutic milieu.
  13. Work to minimize restrictive measures, focusing on least restrictive interventions, and respond to safety alarms.
  14. Assist in training and orienting new staff, potentially acting as a preceptor.
  15. Support ongoing staff development and training initiatives.
  16. Transport patients for appointments and treatments as needed.
  17. Maintain certifications and complete mandatory education on time.
  18. Attend staff meetings and development sessions regularly.
  19. Participate in committees and patient care initiatives as directed.
  20. Follow policies, procedures, safety standards, and participate in quality improvement.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Science, Education, Sociology, Ethics, Health, or Humanities, or equivalent treatment experience.

Minimum Experience: Experience as a Psychiatric Technician at a senior level or similar setting.

Licensure Requirements: Valid Tennessee driver’s license with appropriate endorsements, insurance coverage, and CPR certification.
