Job summary

Johnsonville in Holton, KS is seeking a skilled Industrial Refrigeration Technician to maintain plant refrigeration, HVAC and hot water generation systems. You will monitor equipment, perform preventative maintenance, and support safety programs.

The role requires at least 3 years in industrial refrigeration, RETA and PSM training, and ability to read blueprints. You will mentor colleagues and help ensure regulatory compliance and efficient plant operation.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in industrial refrigeration and boiler fields with electrical/mechanical/plumbing skills.
• Experience reading blueprints and schematics.
• PSM and RETA certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate Plant Refrigeration, HVAC, Hot Water Generation, and utility systems.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on refrigeration, HVAC, boiler, and utilities.
• Troubleshoot electrical or mechanical problems on plant systems.
• Drive Plan PSM program and compliance.
• Maintain the plant HAZMAT program and equipment.
• Mentor Refrigeration/HVAC staff and assist with training.
• Support spare parts inventory and PM packages with Planner.
• Cover areas as assigned by Department Coach.
• Maintain regulatory compliance on Wastewater, PSM, Fire Suppression.
• Support Wastewater operations.

Job description

Position Overview

Pay Range: $38.68/hr - $46.38/hr

Hours: 6:00am – 3:00pm, Monday - Friday (Overtime as production demands).

This position ensures the proper maintenance and operational status of all plant Refrigeration, Hot water generation, and additional associated utility systems and equipment in the Holton, KS facility. Affected equipment includes the plant Refrigeration System, Direct fire water heater, HVAC systems, plant water distribution system, CO2, Fire Suppression, and support systems that are utilized by the plant.

Responsibilities

• Operation of all Plant Refrigeration, HVAC, Hot Water Generation, and Utility systems.
• Ensure Preventative Maintenance and repair of all plant Refrigeration, HVAC, Boiler and Utility equipment are completed.
• Support troubleshooting electrical or mechanical problems on all plant Refrigeration, HVAC, Direct Fire Water heater, and utility equipment.
• Drive Plan PSM program and compliance.
• Assist in maintaining the plants HAZMAT program and equipment.
• Train / Assist other members on Refrigeration / HVAC basics, acting as mentor for the development of Qualified Refrigeration Technicians.
• Mentor others in the Safe Operating Practices and repairs to facility systems.
• Partner with Planner and Parts clerk to ensure proper spare parts inventory and PM packages.
• Cover areas of the plant as assigned by the Department Coach.
• Maintain regulatory compliance on associated systems – Wastewater, PSM, Fire Supression.
• Support Wastewater operations

Education

• Completion of Class I and Class II Industrial Refrigeration School with RETA Certification.
• Completion of an Industrial Ammonia PSM course and Certification.
• Technical Training in relevant area required.

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the Industrial Refrigeration and Boiler field with solid skills in electrical, mechanical and plumbing
• PLC experience preferred
• Experienced in reading Blueprints and Schematics.

Skills

• Ability to understand P&ID’s and assist with system designs
• Understanding of PSM regarding Compliance Guidelines and Requirements
• Assist with system Projects and related maintenance
• Must become a Member of the Emergency Response Team and be able to pass a Respirator Fit Test and Physical
• Computer skills in Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint and SAP
• Candidate should be teamwork oriented with good communication skills

Physical Demands

• Able to work on rough terrain in all weather conditions
• Lift 70lbs unassisted
• Full range of body motion required: standing, kneeling and upper body twisting.

Other Requirements

• Ability to pass a pre-employment, post offer drug screen, physical and background check
• Must be properly groomed / shaved and able to wear a Respirator as required.
• Willing to travel off-site for additional training and certification as required
• Work is performed in all weather conditions outside, inside is refrigerated (35 degrees), plant environment with animal’s present, subject to heights.
