Job Location: 301 West 140th Street, New York, NY 10030. Position Type: On-Call/Per Diem, Hourly, Non-Exempt. Schedule: Up to 20 hours per week, Afterschool Hours. Full onsite. Department: Community Centers, Beacon Harlem. Direct Supervisor: Program Coordinator/Assistant Director, Beacon Harlem.

Position Title: Team Leader.

Role Overview

Team leaders work in Graham Windham’s after school programs and summer camp. They supervise children during a variety of academic, recreational, cultural and youth development activities, create a safe, wholesome environment, and help participants develop well‑rounded skills to handle long‑term challenges.

Responsibilities

• Lead activities such as academic enrichment, small‑group tutoring, art projects, interactive literacy, math and STEM activities.
• Create a safe learning environment for participants.
• Maintain accurate student attendance reports and portfolio evaluations.
• Attend staff meetings and/or staff development activities.
• Lead and supervise your group of students during summer camp trips.
• Participate in Graham Windham’s organizational activities when appropriate.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required upon application. College Degree preferred.
• At least 1–2 years of experience working with groups of elementary‑aged to high‑school‑aged students (experience solely with Pre‑K is NOT applicable).
• At least 18 years of age.

Requirements

• Availability from 2:00pm to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday.
• Documentation regarding education is required.
• Three letters of recommendation.
• Must be fingerprinted and cleared by the Department of Health and any required state central registry clearance documentation prior to employment.
• Full application completion and all documentation requested must be received.
• Serve as a role model for program participants.
• Be a well‑organized individual capable of creating, producing and maintaining lesson plans and documentation.
• Possess quality communication skills that reflect active listening.
• Ability to empathize with participants and plan appropriate interventions with staff and supervisor.

Salary & Compensation

Base Salary or Hourly Rate: $21.36 per hour. FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt.
