Job summary

Primetals Ghent, KY facility seeks a 1st shift Team Leader for the Nickel Plating department. The role focuses on leading electroplating operations, supervising the plating team, and ensuring production schedules and quality standards are met.

The Team Leader will execute tasks similar to team members, emphasize safety, training, and compliance, and will coordinate closely with supervision to maintain operational excellence at the Ghent, Kentucky site.

Responsibilities

• Perform electroplating operations including maintenance of tanks, pumps, filters and equipment.
• Prepare parts by hand finishing, masking, and hanging of contacts.
• Pre-treat parts by removing grease and residues.
• Plate parts by operating overhead crane and submerging parts into plating tanks.
• Unmask parts and ensure coatings meet specifications; adjust bath chemistry and current.
• Direct work of other employees in the absence of the Supervisor.
• Input data into computer to set bath time and amperage; maintain production schedules.
• Ensure safety and productivity of the shift; enforce procedures and proper documentation.
• Assist in hiring process and liaison with supervisors.

Job description

The Primetals Ghent, KY facility conducts maintenance and reconditioning of conventional and new state-of-the-art slab casting equipment for Nucor Gallatin. The facility also offers engineering services, in-plant laser measurement services, plant millwright services, mechanical machining, fabrication, and welding services. Our expertise and technological advancements for the maintenance, repair and manufacture of continuous casting equipment, mold, segment, roll and related components allow us to provide our customers with an exceptional value in workmanship and quality assurance.

We are currently recruiting to fill the role of 1st shift Team Leader for Nickel Plating department in Ghent, KY

The Team Leader will spend more than 90% of work hours performing machining tasks similar to those of other group members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform all necessary tasks associated with electroplating operations including but not limited to the following: scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of plating solution, tanks, pumps, filters and other equipment associated with the process. Performance of work is under no supervision.
• Preparation of parts: hand finishing, masking and installation of hangers and contacts.
• Pre-treatment of parts: removal of grease, oil, and residues utilizing chemical or cleaning solutions.
• Plating of parts: operating overhead crane to submerge part into plating tank.
• Unmask parts after removal from plating tank.
• Tests the plating process to ensure compliance with required specifications. Adjusts the PH of the bath and the amperage on the electrical rectifiers as required.
• Assigns and directs the work of other employees in the absence of the Supervisor.
• Determines the correct program for plating process. Requires data input in computer to confirm length of time in bath and proper amperage.
• Maintains environmental records for state and other regulatory branches.
• Troubleshoots plating problems.
• Ensures the safety and productivity of all employees assigned to designated shift, crew or function
• Receives and disseminates written and verbal instruction, direction and training from Supervisor or other Senior Managers
• Trains group members and may participate in performance appraisal process.
• Operates from a broad scope of responsibility to maintain production schedules and to ensure quality standards are met.
• Enables effective communications between management and operators.
• Enforces processing procedures and policies.
• Ensures completion of operational documentation for assigned group, such as travelers, map sheets, job router, work requests to other departments, etc.
• Ensures completion of safety documentation for assigned group, such as first reports of injury, environmental mishaps, JSA’s, etc
• Maintains a clean and safe work area
• Monitors and ensures shipments are loaded and rigged properly.
• May assist in the hiring process.
