Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a Surgical Tech for Lafayette, IN. The role involves cleaning, wrapping, sterilizing, storing and distributing surgical instruments and endoscopes used in patient care.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One national certification (CRCST, CSPDT, CFER or CST) and a second related to central service or sterile processing.
  • Requires 24 CE credits annually focused on CS field.
  • Must maintain NBSTSA CST certification for hybrid OR/SPD roles.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Expert knowledge to function as Tech III.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
  • Advanced preceptor skills for mentoring/coaching.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Endo instrumentation knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists area clinical staff by using specialized knowledge to prepare for surgical cases.
  • Trains team on various skills and tasks; mentors others.
  • Provides scheduling, training and inventory assistance to Manager.

Job description

Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, stores and distributes equipment, supplies, instruments and endoscopes used in patient care. Assists area clinical staff by using specialized knowledge in surgical instrumentation and procedures to prepare for surgical cases. Provides technical guidance to others involved in the assembly of instrumentation and preparation of case carts. Trains team on various skills and tasks. Acts as a resource or mentor for the team and other staff. Provides functional guidance to the team and assists Manager with scheduling, training and inventory duties.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Requires one national certification (CRCST,CSPDT,CFER or CST) and a second national certification related to central service or sterile processing (Examples: CIS; CSIP; CFER; CST; CHMM; CHL).
  • Requires 24 CE credits annually that focus on information and advancement related to the CS field and be of a technical nature.
  • Must maintain current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA if in a hybrid OR/SPD role.
  • May require Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies. Requires 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires demonstration of expert knowledge and skills identified as necessary to function as a Tech III.
  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
  • Requires advanced preceptor skills and experience in mentoring and coaching.
  • Requires basic computer skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Endo instrumentation function and maintenance is preferred.
