Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a skilled Central Sterile Technician to clean, wrap, sterilize and distribute surgical instruments and endoscopes for patient care in Avon, Indiana. You will assist clinical staff with instrument prep for procedures and provide technical guidance to the team.

The role also trains staff, mentors colleagues and supports scheduling, training and inventory duties, while maintaining CS certifications and CE credits. 3–5 years' experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Requires one national certification (CRCST, CSPDT, or CST) and a second national certification related to central service or sterile processing.
  • Requires 24 CE credits annually focused on CS field.
  • Must maintain NBSTSA certification if in a hybrid OR/SPD role.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

Overview

Cleans, wraps, sterilizes, stores and distributes equipment, supplies, instruments and endoscopes used in patient care. Assists area clinical staff by using specialized knowledge in surgical instrumentation and procedures to prepare for surgical cases. Provides technical guidance to others involved in the assembly of instrumentation and preparation of case carts. Trains team on various skills and tasks. Acts as a resource or mentor for the team and other staff. Provides functional guidance to the team and assists Manager with scheduling, training and inventory duties.

High School Diploma or GED required.

  • Requires one national certification (CRCST,CSPDT,CFER or CST) and a second national certification related to central service or sterile processing (Examples: CIS; CSIP; CFER; CST; CHMM; CHL).
  • Requires 24 CE credits annually that focus on information and advancement related to the CS field and be of a technical nature.
  • Must maintain current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist obtained from the NBSTSA if in a hybrid OR/SPD role.
  • May require Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies. Requires 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires demonstration of expert knowledge and skills identified as necessary to function as a Tech III.
  • Requires knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
  • Requires advanced preceptor skills and experience in mentoring and coaching.
  • Requires basic computer skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Endo instrumentation function and maintenance is preferred.
