Job description

Position Overview

This position oversees the shipping and receiving department, responsible for the proper handling of materials, adherence to safety procedures, and providing accurate, timely shipments. It involves directing activities to meet the financial and marketing objectives of the company. The role also acts as the leader on duty in response to customer and associate concerns in the absence of the store manager, as well as opening and closing the store and ensuring all bookstore property and personnel are secure.

Compensation

State of Colorado Applicants: $12.56-$18/hr

Key Areas of Responsibility
  1. Supervises the work activities of sales associates, including full-time, part-time, and temporary staff.
  2. Trains new associates, including seasonal hires for peak seasons.
  3. Ensures sales associates follow company and store policies, procedures, and standards.
  4. Oversees the maintenance of systems data, forms, files, and reports in accordance with store policies and procedures.
  5. Maintains the shipping/receiving area, ensuring it is stocked, neat, clean, and organized.
  6. Establishes and maintains relationships with publishers to track order statuses, damaged books, or vendor returns.
  7. Verifies items are scanned at the correct price and moved to the appropriate store location.
  8. Checks incoming shipments against purchase orders, invoices, or packing slips to ensure accuracy and condition, and enters them into store systems.
  9. Records receipt of shipments and completes shipping logs.
  10. Unpacks boxes, verifies items, and enters received goods into the store system.
  11. Weighs incoming/outgoing cartons and may unload or load trucks or pallets.
  12. Prepares and affixes shipping labels with proper postage.
  13. Prepares inter-store transfer forms as needed.
  14. Unloads boxes and prepares products for stocking on shelves or displays.
  15. Guides customers to the location of their items and responds to routine inquiries.
  16. Leads efforts to reduce in-store shrink activity through asset protection education, awareness, and compliance.
  17. Acts as the key carrier with store opening and closing responsibilities.
  18. Performs other duties as assigned.
