Job description

Position Overview

This position oversees the shipping and receiving department, responsible for the proper handling of materials, adherence to safety procedures, and providing accurate, timely shipments. The role involves directing activities to meet the financial and marketing objectives of the company. Additionally, the position acts as the leader on duty, responding to customer and associate concerns in the absence of the store manager, as well as opening and closing the store and ensuring all bookstore property and personnel are secure.

Key Areas of Responsibility
  1. Supervision: Supervise the work activities of sales associates (full-time, part-time, and temporary), including training new associates and seasonal staff hired for peak seasons.
  2. Policy Compliance: Ensure sales associates follow company and store policies, procedures, and standards.
  3. System Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance of systems data, forms, files, and reports in accordance with store policies and procedures.
  4. Shipping/Receiving: Ensure the shipping/receiving area has adequate supplies and materials, and maintain a neat, clean, and organized environment. Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, invoices, or packing slips, and ensure items are not damaged. Record receipt of shipments and complete shipping logs. Unpack boxes, verify items, and enter received goods into the store system. Weigh incoming/outgoing cartons and load/unload trucks or pallets as needed. Pack and affix shipping labels with proper postage. Prepare inter-store transfer forms if necessary.
  5. Inventory Management: Verify items are scanned at the correct price, move items to appropriate store locations, and ensure proper stocking of shelves and displays.
  6. Customer Service: Direct customers to their items and answer routine inquiries.
  7. Asset Protection: Lead efforts to reduce in-store shrink activity through education, awareness, and compliance.
  8. Store Operations: Act as the key carrier with responsibilities for opening and closing the store, ensuring security of property and personnel.
  9. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
