Position Overview

The Team Lead Shipping/Receiving oversees the shipping and receiving department. They are responsible for the proper handling of materials, adherence to safety procedures, and providing accurate, timely shipments. They direct activities to meet the financial and marketing objectives of the company. The team lead acts as the leader on duty, responding to customer and associate concerns in the absence of the store manager, as well as opening and closing the store and ensuring all bookstore property and personnel are secure.

Responsibilities
  1. Supervises the work activities of sales associates, both full-time/part-time and temporary, including training new associates and seasonal staff hired for peak seasons.
  2. Ensures sales associates follow company and store policies, procedures, and standards.
  3. Oversees maintenance of systems data, forms, files, and reports in accordance with store policies and procedures.
  4. Maintains the shipping/receiving area, ensuring it has adequate supplies and remains neat and organized.
  5. Establishes and maintains relationships with publishers to track order statuses, damaged books, and returns.
  6. Verifies items scanned at the correct price and moves items to appropriate store locations.
  7. Checks incoming shipments against purchase orders, invoices, or packing slips, ensuring all items are received intact and entering them into store systems.
  8. Records receipt of shipments and completes shipping logs.
  9. Unpacks boxes, verifies items match purchase orders, and enters received goods into the store system.
  10. Weighs incoming/outgoing cartons and may unload/load trucks or pallets.
  11. Packs and affixes shipping labels with proper postage.
  12. Prepares inter-store transfer forms as needed.
  13. Unloads boxes and prepares products for stock on bookshelves or displays.
  14. Directs customers to items and answers routine inquiries.
  15. Leads efforts to reduce in-store shrinkage through Asset Protection education and compliance.
  16. Acts as the key carrier during store opening and closing.
  17. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary ranges vary by location: Colorado: $12.56-$18.00/hr; New York City: $15.75-$20.33/hr; California: $15.75-$20.33/hr.
