Position Summary
Responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Network Infrastructure Group, managing direct employees and consultants. Specific duties include planning, coordination, configuration, installation, and management of all network infrastructure and related client services within the enterprise to meet business requirements. Designs and implements network architectures, including LANs, LAN internetworking, and connections with the WAN environment. Has key responsibility for the identification and resolution of hardware and software technical problems and malfunctions related to network enterprise infrastructure and related servers. Makes decisions that are critical in the areas of throughput analysis, problem solving, and infrastructure planning, with the potential to affect the successful execution of business transactions. Proactively researches and locates necessary tools and processes to identify troublesome trends as they develop. Ensures a stable performance environment for the enterprise systems. Participates in and leads various IT projects intended to continually improve/upgrade the enterprise network infrastructure.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Technical support – leads the strategic and tactical planning of LAN/WAN and wireless environments, including discovery and documentation of user requirements.
- Manages the technical work done by the Network Engineering team; prioritizes and assigns work and tracks projects to completion.
- Builds relationships with cross‑functional project teams and works closely with internal and external customers.
- Manages network technical support queue.
- Installs, monitors, and troubleshoots network equipment, circuits and services.
- Diagnoses and resolves complex problems that may include the interrelation of network devices, network and server operating systems, databases, applications and end‑user devices.
- Manages network change management, including design, approval, testing and sign‑off, and ensures adequate procedures and documentation are created and maintained.
- Manages relationships with external partners and vendors and internal customers, and evaluates and recommends products and services to improve performance, stability, manageability and security of the network.
Lead Responsibilities
- Holds daily meetings (or “huddles”) with staff to discuss daily plan, open issues and focus for the day.
- Schedules team assignments for the week, for the day, and schedules breaks.
- Provides technical guidance and expertise to team members.
- Provides direction and development to employees by coaching, identifying training needs, assigning progressively challenging projects, and assisting in career development planning.
- Assists with new hire set‑up, monitors performance and compliance with departmental procedures, and evaluates staff in annual performance appraisals.
- Assists in setting priorities and managing resources to achieve unit, division, and corporate goals.
- Makes recommendations for department standards, policies and guidelines.
Job Requirements – Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline; Master’s degree is desirable.
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations Required
Cisco CCNA required. Other Cisco, F5 or Aruba certification is desirable.
Experience
- Four to six years of related experience in infrastructure/network environments performing network engineering (hardware and software), and designing, planning, and implementing LAN, WAN and WLAN technologies in a multi‑datacenter, large campus environment.
- Minimum of three years of experience in Cisco configuration programming and analytical work.
- Experience with Cisco Nexus is a strong plus.
Knowledge and Skills
- Deep understanding of distributed systems architecture and comprehensive knowledge of multiple technical disciplines.
- Excellent technical knowledge in networks, network topologies, wired and wireless networking, and ability to solve network infrastructure issues.
- Ability to manage performance and capacity of a LAN/WAN environment, manage small to large projects, and manage small teams of technical engineers.
- Strong customer service, communication, judgment, analytical, follow‑up and organizational skills.
- Ability to conduct feasibility studies, develop client proposals, include estimates for costs, time and resources, prepare statistical reports, complete cost/benefit analyses, and conduct business.
- Technical knowledge:
- Hardware: Cisco routers and Catalyst switches, Cisco Nexus switches, ASA, F5 LTM & GTM, Aruba wireless.
- Protocols: TCP/IP, Radius, OSPF, BGP, SNMP, OTV.
- Connectivity: Frame relay, T1/T3 private networks, ISDN, DSL, dark fiber.
- WAN/LAN management: SolarWinds Orion, Aruba AirWave, Cisco ACS.
- Operating systems: Microsoft Windows, VMware, Linux, AIX, Macintosh.
- Desktop: Microsoft Windows, Apple Macintosh.
- Mobile: Familiarity with mobile/portable technologies.
- Unix systems: Familiarity with installation and administration desirable.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation Range: $89,500.00 – $130,000.00. This estimate is based on the minimum job qualifications and is determined by a comprehensive approach that considers education, experience, skills, and certifications, as well as business needs and market competitiveness. Total compensation includes benefits (medical, dental, vision, pharmacy), discretionary annual bonuses and merit increases, Flexible Spending Accounts, 403(b) savings matches, paid time off, career advancement opportunities, and resources to support employee and family well‑being.
