The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana, operating 24/7 and performing over 19 million tests annually. In addition to serving IU Health, our laboratory testing services extend to hospitals and physicians nationwide.

The Team Lead at the LAB oversees the Phlebotomy laboratory team, coordinating services such as specimen collection, blood component preparation, pre-analytic processing, waived testing, and moderate complexity testing, along with clerical tasks. The Lead Lab Assistant will dedicate approximately 25% of their time to ad hoc leadership responsibilities. Responsibilities may include patient and specimen registration and specimen delivery.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related science preferred.
  • Successful completion of initial and six-month competency assessments for specific testing.
  • Annual competency assessments for identified testing.
  • At least one year of experience in a laboratory setting; two years preferred.
  • Working knowledge of computers.
  • Excellent telephone skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as a team member and leader.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
  • Complex problem-solving skills with appropriate escalation procedures.
