Job summary

Mayo Clinic is hiring for a full-time Histology Technologist position located in Jacksonville, Florida. Job description

Responsibilities

Process, embed, and microtomy all surgical tissues.
Perform frozen section staining and routine H&E and special staining (e.g., electromicrotomy, immunofluorescence, immunohistochemistry).
Maintain equipment and records, and use the pathology Laboratory Information System.
Manage day‑to‑day operations of the histology department in the supervisor’s absence.
Document all data generated and work performed accurately.
Assist in quality management, problem solving, and implementation of new equipment.
Develop protocols and QC slides.
Train new personnel and monitor supplies.
Coordinate staff shift coverage and workload distribution.
Handle chemicals and reagents, including hazardous waste.
Demonstrate knowledge of departmental growth and development principles.

Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in histology, biology, or a related field with at least 2 years of laboratory experience.
Associate of Science in histology, biology, or a related field with at least 4 years of laboratory experience.
Organizational and problem‑solving skills.
Strong leadership skills and sound judgment in dealing with procedural and technical issues.
Experience in test development and immunohistochemistry preferred.
HT or HTL (ASCP) certification preferred.

Licensure

A Florida State Clinical Laboratory Technologist Supervisor License is preferred.
