Geotab seeks a Team Lead, Embedded Development to lead and grow a remote embedded development team based in Canada within our Embedded Engineering department. What you'll do

• Lead the design and development of hardware and firmware for Geotab's vehicle telematics devices.
• Manage a team, dedicating approximately 60% of your time to people management and 40% to hands-on technical work.
• Design and develop embedded Linux, RTOS, or bare-metal expandability devices.
• Build monitors for querying Geotab's Big Data environment, maintain current products, and collaborate on new product development.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams including Embedded Engineering, Solutions Engineering, and Software Development.

How you'll make an impact

• Manage ongoing design and development of embedded platforms.
• Enforce coding standards and conduct peer reviews.
• Facilitate team meetings and planning sessions to prioritize work and improve quality and efficiency.
• Participate in leadership meetings and project oversight.
• Review and approve firmware changes as part of Change Management.
• Mentor developers and assist with technical problem-solving.
• Identify resource needs and collaborate on staffing and tools.
• Maintain documentation and develop guidelines, policies, and standards.
• Provide project leadership and guidance as a Subject Matter Expert.
• Oversee team performance, coaching, and development.
• Support performance management and career development initiatives.
• Contribute to Geotab's global strategic initiatives.

What you'll bring to the role

• 1-3 years of leadership and management experience in a development environment.
• 5-8 years of embedded development experience using C and C++.
• Experience with RTOS, Embedded Linux, IoT devices, sensors, wireless communication, and protocols like USB, NFC, BLE, CAN.
• Knowledge of SCRUM and Agile practices is highly valued.
• Experience with Rust and Google BigQuery is highly valued.
• Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Leadership experience in a team-oriented workplace.
• Ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort in a flat organizational structure.
