Job summary

DSV Air & Sea Inc. in South San Francisco, CA is seeking a Team Lead, Customs to guide a team of customs brokers through compliant, timely clearance and to develop procedures.

You will coordinate with clients, carriers and CBP, review documents, ensure accuracy, and oversee audits and metrics, with a focus on training and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of customs brokers to ensure timely and compliant customs clearance of shipments.
  • Develop and implement customs compliance procedures and ensure team members are trained on relevant customs regulations.
  • Work closely with customers, carriers, and other internal departments to ensure smooth customs clearance processes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on customs regulations and provide guidance to team members and customers as needed.
  • Manage customs audits and other compliance activities.
  • Monitor and analyze customs compliance metrics and develop action plans to address any issues or areas for improvement.
  • Maintain relationships with customs authorities and stay up-to-date on changes in regulations and procedures.
  • Review of Customs documents to be filed with CBP ensuring accuracy.
  • Verify classification and valuation with the importer when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with customs regulations.
  • Obtain the appropriate documents required to support claims or disclaims.
  • Ensure the proper and timely payment of duties, taxes, or other charges assessed or collected by CBP on merchandise by reason of its importation.
  • Maintain documents required under 19 CFR 163.
  • Monitor and track customs clearances and resolve any delays or issues.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, clients, customs brokers, and government agencies to resolve customs-related issues.

Summary

The Customs Team Lead will be responsible for leading a team of customs brokers to ensure timely and compliant customs clearance of shipments. They will also be responsible for developing and implementing customs compliance procedures and ensuring that all team members are trained on relevant customs regulations. The team lead will also be responsible for transactions with U.S. Customs (CBP) concerning the entry and admissibility of merchandise. This includes conducting effective research, communicating with the client and/ or CBP, managing Customs entries, monitoring clearance, and recordkeeping.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a team of customs brokers to ensure timely and compliant customs clearance of shipments

Educational background / Work experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field such as logistics, international business, or supply chain management
  • Customs broker license preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in customs brokerage or related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in a leadership or supervisory role
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of customs regulations and procedures
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects
Supervisory Responsibilities (if any)
  • Supervise a team of customs brokers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Customs broker license
  • Experience working in the transportation and logistics industry
  • Experience working with international shipments and customs clearance
Language skills
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
Computer Literacy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and customs clearance software is required.

For this position, the expected base pay is: $30.00 - $40.00 / hourly. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, geographic location and other objective business considerations.
