Overview

Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University Medical Center is a major affiliated hospital offering a fast-paced nursing environment within the Center for Advanced Medicine. This description reflects roles related to the BJC Registered Nurse Career Ladder and clinical leadership opportunities for PACU/nursing staff involved in surgical services.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate identification and resolution of gaps in care from hospitalization, at discharge, and into the ambulatory care setting. Critically assess patient data to mitigate impending changes in condition and establish consults to interprofessional teams as appropriate.
• Lead development and implementation of complex, individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver in accordance with established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
• Actively utilize and champion evidence-based practices; participate in journal clubs, facilitate practice changes based on new knowledge, and disseminate new knowledge obtained from conferences or continuing education.
• Analyze gaps in practice standards and provide feedback to peers to enhance safe patient care; lead evaluation of patient and family experience and adjust care to improve satisfaction and quality of care.
• Support safety by recognizing that this is a safety-sensitive position and maintain a constant state of alertness as an essential function of the role.

Role Details

• Role Purpose: Under the direction of the manager, plans, directs, and coordinates activities of a unit on a designated shift; performs direct patient care as needed and acts as a clinical resource to nursing and support staff.

Additional Information

• Days: 3/12s
• Hours: 0900-2130
• 24 hours of call per 6-week schedule
• 40-60 cases per day including eyes, ORS, breast, flaps, vascular, and gender reaffirming surgeries
• No weekends or holidays
• Bonus eligible
