NISC is seeking a Software Development Team Lead for the Mapping & Staking product and cloud platform. You will guide an agile team, manage GIS data used across our enterprise applications, and mentor engineers to deliver reliable map-based solutions.

You will collaborate with cross-functional partners, drive high-quality SDLC practices, and use AI tools to boost productivity while advancing technical direction and performance metrics.

Qualifications

5+ years of relevant experience in software development, requirements, or applicable technical areas.
3+ years in a technical leadership or supervisory role.
Experience with GIS, ESRI or ArcGIS is preferred.
Experience with Java, C#, Angular/JavaScript, Spring Boot.
Experience with cloud technologies/architectures, preferably AWS.
Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Rundeck.
Ability to collaborate across teams and manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

Take ownership for development efforts and productivity of the engineering team.

Position Overview:

The Software Development Team Lead will be part of an agile development team, building and working on our Mapping & Staking product and our cloud platform. This team is responsible for managing GIS data used throughout our enterprise suite of applications, including web and desktop applications. This application allows NISC Members to enter and maintain mapping data, find relationships, identify trends and allow multiple workstations to view enterprise utility or telecommunication maps. Examples of what would be tracked in these maps are power lines or fiber internet cables. The Team Lead helps ensure comprehensive contract and integration test coverage for their applications and will provide technical and team leadership through mentoring, coaching and hands-on development. Essential Functions:

Takes ownership for development efforts and productivity of the engineering team.
Analyze and resolve technical issues.
Responsible for coaching of direct reports.
Ensure quality standards and apply best practices for an effective SDLC.
Supply progress reports to management.
Effective collaboration with other departments and divisions.
Commit and test production code.
Leverage generative AI tools and technologies to enhance productivity, creativity, and problem-solving within the scope of the role.
Identify and act upon areas for growth and improvement within the team.
Responsible for application and process improvement.
Assess individual and team performance.
Set individual and team goals and objectives.
Selection and hiring of new employees.
Assists Department Manager with establishing action plans for key strategic projects and technical direction.
Other duties as assigned.

Desired Experience and Skills:

5+ years of relevant experience in area of discipline; preferably in software development, software requirements, or other applicable technical areas.
3+ years of experience in a technical leadership or supervisory role.
Experience with GIS, ESRI or ArcGIS, preferred.
Experience with any of the following: Java / C#, Angular / JavaScript, Spring Boot.
Experience with cloud technologies/architectures, preferably AWS.
Experience with JIRA, Confluence, BitBucket, Bamboo, Rundeck.
Possess ability to collaborate effectively both horizontally and vertically within the organization.
Possess ability to organize and manage multiple priorities within critical deadlines.
Strong delegation, prioritization, coaching, and feedback delivery skills.
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to manage the day-to-day operations of a team engaged in a high volume of work.

Work Schedule:

Hybrid from one of our office locations: Atlanta, GA Cedar Rapids, IA Lake Saint Louis, MO Mandan, ND Hybrid Schedule: Minimum of working 3 days per week out of an office location and ability to work up to all 5 days a week from an office location. Required Days from an Office Location: Tuesday and Wednesday – the third required day will be up to the candidate and their supervisor to choose.
