Job summary

Steel Tool & Engineering Co. in Trenton, MI is seeking a Team Lead to coordinate daily production on the shop floor, support operators, enforce safety and quality standards, and drive continuous improvement through a structured 3-Step Daily Leadership process.

The role requires 2+ years in manufacturing with leadership experience, knowledge of Lean principles, the ability to lift 40 lbs, and basic ERP usage. You will mentor staff, track performance, and coordinate with Quality and Maintenance.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in manufacturing (steel, machining, tooling, or related) must have leadership or lead-operator experience.
• Working knowledge of Lean principles (5S, standard work, waste reduction).
• Ability to lift 40 lbs and work in a shop-floor environment.
• Basic computer skills (production reporting, email, ERP entry).

Responsibilities

• Plan the daily workflow by reviewing production schedules, staffing levels, machine readiness, materials and tooling.
• Conduct start-of-shift team huddles to communicate safety reminders, targets, quality expectations, and known issues.
• Assign operators to workstations and ensure priorities.
• Monitor production, verify adherence to standard work, and track output, scrap, downtime, and quality.
• Provide coaching, training, and hands-on support to operators as needed.
• Address issues including housekeeping/5S, equipment irregularities, documentation gaps, and non-critical quality concerns.
• Escalate major issues (safety risks, defects, or equipment failures) as needed.
• Communicate with Quality, Maintenance, and Supervisors about issues and performance.
• Review shift results vs targets and document downtime, quality concerns, and safety issues.
• Identify at least one improvement opportunity per shift and support Kaizen/A3 problem solving.
