Summary: Provides day to day management for a single JELD-WEN Software Development Group. Proficient in commonly used software development concepts, standards, procedures and languages. Relies on education, experience and judgment to prioritize, and plan to accomplish goals. Primary job functions typically require exercising a degree of creativity and being able to work independently to accomplish stated goals

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees the design, development and testing of software solutions
  • Provides leadership and direction for all programmers within group
  • Inform IS management of new opportunities.
  • Work with architects to evaluate and recommend system enhancements and supporting schema, and execute complex projects, adhering to high quality standards, on time and complete to the customer's satisfaction.
  • Seek out and implement solutions to cut costs and/or give JELD-WEN a competitive advantage.
  • Keep abreast of current software development techniques and trends
  • Insures confidentiality of information necessary to complete job tasks
  • Work closely in a team environment to design and implement strategic software products based on varying technologies.
  • Keep management informed of progress via weekly time sheets and, as appropriate, specific project management reports.
  • Continually look to enhance technical and business skills to improve productivity.
  • Conduct unit and integration testing of software configurations.
  • Primary responsibility for adherence to coding standards and quality of JELD-WEN software systems
  • Develops coding and deployment standards
  • Oversees development of appropriate, cost effective software solutions for end users
  • Recommend and implement appropriate software solutions to projects and problems as they arise.
  • Lead a team who analyzes, designs, develops, and tests software systems and relational database applications.
  • Lead the development of applications for key business areas such as manufacturing, distribution, and financial.
  • Codes projects with the team
  • Help with the interviewing and hiring of additional personnel
  • Conducts both on the job training and management training of team members
  • Conducts yearly evaluation of team members
  • Provide estimates of personnel requirements, cost and time for programming projects.
  • Exhibit high personal commitment to quality, implementing development best practices.
  • Mentor junior and senior developers.
  • Support the deployment of programs to the user community.
  • Create, technical specifications, unit test plans and required documentation.
  • Provide continuous, friendly support of our applications to the user community.
  • Communicate regularly with required job contacts.
  • Full-time positions as defined by JELD-WEN’s Management Agreement.

  • Progress Software OpenEdge Platform, UNIX skills and Enterprise Resource Planning application knowledge.

Education/Experience:

Four years of college, preferably in Software Computer Sciences (Software Engineering, Information Technology, etc.) or equivalent and five plus years of relevant experience. Prior experience leading teams of software developers

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Spreadsheet software; Development software; Internet software; Order processing systems; Project Management software; Manufacturing software; Database software and Contact Management systems.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position will supervise a team of developers.

Physical Demands:

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear.
