Teaching Professor Position in Computer and Information Science

The Department of Computer and Information Science (CIS) in the College of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a Teaching Professor position in the areas of artificial intelligence, software engineering, computer game design or related field in computer science starting in September 2025. The appointment level will be made commensurate with experience. The initial appointment is for two academic years (2025 & 2026), with the possibility of renewal/continuous appointment. This is a 9-month academic, non-tenure-track position with primary responsibilities for undergraduate and graduate classroom and online instruction, undergraduate advising, and university service.

The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth is located in the beautiful oceanside community of Dartmouth, about an hour south of Boston, half-hour east of Providence, and half-hour west of Cape Cod. It offers a world class education to more than 9,300 undergraduate and graduate students each year in over 40 undergraduate and 23 graduate programs offered by the College of Engineering, College of Nursing, Charlton College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Visual and Performing Arts, School of Law and School for Marine Science and Technology.

The College of Engineering is comprised of six departments: Bioengineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer and Information Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics. We offer 8 undergraduate degree programs, 8 concentrations, 11 graduate programs, and 8 accelerated BS-MS programs that serve more than 1,500 students. Our mission is to prepare graduates to meet 21st-century technological challenges and improve the well-being of society; create new knowledge in engineering, technology, and bioengineering; and engage and develop students to become leaders in their fields through service and scholarship.

Duties

It is expected the successful candidate will be an engaging and effective teacher with a strong commitment to student learning and success. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate computer science and data science courses; implementing inclusive and evidence-based teaching and learning approaches to ensure the academic success of a diverse population of students; advising senior capstone projects; collaborating with faculty to enhance curriculum; providing academic advising; participating in university service activities; and actively engaging in university diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have earned a master’s degree in computer science or closely-related field at the time of employment, have experience with teaching at the college level, possess excellent communication skills, demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence as well as diversity and inclusion, and be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will have a PhD degree in computer science or closely-related field, documented success in teaching at the college level, experience with both classroom and online modes of instruction, and research and development experience in computer science. We especially encourage applications from scholars historically underrepresented in science, mathematics, and engineering, including veterans and individuals with disabilities. We seek candidates who have demonstrated experience in efforts to increase the recruitment and retention of women and members of historically minoritized groups in engineering.
