Job summary

Five Iron Golf in Washington, DC is seeking a General Manager, Performance / Coach to lead all golf operations at the venue and drive membership and performance revenue. You will oversee staff, coach lessons, manage P&L for golf offerings, and maintain a personal lesson book.

You will collaborate with the Director of Instruction, develop the golf team, leverage Trackman and simulators, and promote Five Iron through events and partnerships.

• Passion for golf and leadership experience in hospitality/sports management.
• Experience in golf instruction is strongly preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with Trackman and launch monitor data.

Five Iron Golf is seeking a General Manager, Performance / Coach.

This is predominantly a management and leadership role, responsible for overseeing and growing all golf operations at the location, with the opportunity to maintain a lesson book and coach Five Iron members and guests.

This role is designed for a golf professional who wants to lead a team and own the performance side of the venue while continuing to teach. The General Manager, Performance / Coach will oversee the golf operation, drive membership and performance revenue, develop the golf team, and have the opportunity to generate additional earnings through lessons and club fitting.

Responsibilities Include The Following

• Hire, manage, train and develop the golf staff, including the Head Golf Attendant
• Manage the P&L for golf-specific and retail offerings and achieve quarterly revenue targets
• Lead the day-to-day golf operation and set above-and-beyond service standards for the golf team
• Partner with the Director of Instruction to manage coach availability and performance to achieve lesson and fitting revenue goals
• Build and grow the membership community through member events, outings, leagues and local golf relationships
• Build relationships within the community, foster loyalty with customers and encourage repeat business through proactive engagement
• Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Five Iron’s golf offerings, including technology, lessons, leagues, memberships, club fitting and retail
• Demonstrate proficiency with Trackman, Five Iron simulator technology and other golf-related equipment
• Actively evaluate golf staff performance to ensure day-to-day business needs and performance goals are met
• Provide excellent account service throughout the membership experience, from onboarding through ongoing engagement
• Communicate golf-specific needs and opportunities to the National Director of Golf, General Manager, Social and other corporate partners
• Maintain and grow a personal lesson book alongside management responsibilities
• Deliver high-quality golf instruction and club fittings to students of varying skill levels
• Leverage Five Iron’s existing membership and guest base to develop coaching relationships and recurring students
• Utilize launch monitor data, video analysis and other technology to help students achieve their golf goals
• Serve as a featured coach at corporate events and other Five Iron programming when applicable
• Utilize social media and other channels to promote Five Iron and build your presence as a coach

Required Qualifications

• Passion for the game of golf
• 5+ years of hospitality, golf course/club, sports management or related leadership experience preferred
• Golf instruction experience strongly preferred
• Strong leadership ability and willingness to lead by example
• Understanding of golf swing fundamentals, ball flight laws and launch monitor data
• Familiarity with swing analysis, Trackman and simulator technology
• Exemplary communication, time management and organizational skills
• Strong social and interpersonal skills with the ability to build meaningful relationships with Guests, members and students
• Ability to communicate golf instruction effectively to players across a wide range of skill levels
• Ability to lead and operate in a fast-paced environment
• Upbeat energy, enthusiasm and a positive attitude
• Desire to continue learning and growing as both a leader and golf professional
• Availability to be present in the space during high-value business times, including mornings, nights and weekends as needed

Job Type: Full Time, Exempt

Pay: On-Target Earnings of $103,200 annually, with additional earning potential based on lesson and club fitting volume.

$70,000 base salary + up to $17,200 in performance-based bonus compensation + targeted lesson and club fitting earnings of approximately $16,000 annually.

This position is designed primarily as a management role, with the opportunity for an experienced golf professional to continue coaching, build a lesson book and generate additional earnings alongside their leadership responsibilities.
