Job description

Students (assisting teaching and research)

Are you interested in working with fellow students and gaining work experience in teaching? The Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation is seeking teaching assistants for the following courses:

1) ELEC-E8740 Basics of Sensor Fusion

We will hire 2-4 Teaching Assistants for this course, which will be conducted in English. The responsibilities include:

  • Handling exercise sessions: There are 10 sessions, each requiring 3 assignments to be solved by TAs or students.
  • Managing project work: Preparing or modifying the project guide, explaining instructions, and allocating lab time for data collection.
  • Grading: Assessing 2 exams, approximately 10 homework assignments, and 2 project reports.
  • Online communication: Engaging with students weekly via platforms like Zulip for discussions on homework, exercises, or lectures.

Applicants should have knowledge of linear algebra, mathematical statistics, calculus, sensor fusion systems, and Kalman filtering algorithms. More information can be obtained from Casian Iacob at casian.iacob@aalto.fi.

2) ELEC-E8103 Modelling, Estimation, and Dynamic Systems

We will hire 2 Teaching Assistants for this course, also taught in English. Responsibilities include guiding exercises, grading submissions, and coordinating sessions, which are distributed over periods I & II. The course involves 4 x 2-hour exercise sessions per week, with some sessions shared among assistants. There is also a final grading task for a non-session exercise.

Applicants should have excelled in this course or have similar experience in modeling with ODEs, Simulink, regression, system identification, and preferably basic machine learning knowledge. More information is available from Professor Quan Zhou at quan.zhou@aalto.fi.

Approximately 3 Teaching Assistants will be hired for this course, which will be conducted in Finnish.

Compensation will depend on workload, which will be agreed upon individually. Note: These positions are only for Aalto students.
