Job description

Position: Teaching Assistant Professor, Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies - University of Pittsburgh

The Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a full-time Teaching Assistant Professor position for a three-year term, with a review at the end of the first year. The position involves a 3-3 course load and is outside the tenure track. Classes are scheduled to begin on August 25, 2025. Salary and benefits are competitive.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Ability to teach introductory courses in Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies and Indigenous Feminism. The candidate should also be capable of teaching courses in Sociology, with a focus on Sociology of Gender and Islam.
  2. PhD in Sociology, Political Sociology, or Middle Eastern Studies.
  3. Ability to contribute to the development of programming and courses related to the creation of a Certificate in Muslim Societies and Cultures.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Previous teaching experience at a public research university in the relevant areas.
  2. Ability to support curricular and programmatic needs across History, Religious Studies, and Islamic Studies.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment with students from diverse backgrounds.
