Description
The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University is seeking applications and nominations for a Teaching Assistant/Associate Professor in Computer Science and Software Engineering. The appointment will be in the Lane Department of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. The focus areas include Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and software engineering.
West Virginia University is a comprehensive Land Grant University with a Carnegie Classification of Highest Research Activity (i.e., R1 University). The Statler College has seven academic departments, over $50M in annual research expenditures, and the Lane Department comprises 30 faculty members with approximately 750 undergraduates and 150 graduate students.
The successful candidate will benefit from resources offered by the Lane Department, Statler College, industry partners, and collaborators. WVU is designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence (NCAE) in Cyber Defense Research (CAE-R) and in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) by the NSA and DHS. The university is a member of US CYBERCOMMAND Academic Engagement Network and AFRL information institute, providing enriching experiences for students.
The Lane Department plans to offer online MS programs in AI and cybersecurity. The software engineering program is a top-ranked online MS program nationally, established in 1996 to meet regional industry demand and now serving nationwide professionals. The department hosts a center and NSF Research Traineeship focusing on AI+Health, collaborating with WVU Health Science campus. Qualifications
We seek a dynamic faculty member with strong technical expertise and a proven or potential track record in teaching, capable of developing graduate courses for in-class and online LMS platforms like Blackboard and Coursera. Candidates with experience in the private sector or national labs are encouraged. The candidate must hold a Ph.D. in computer science, software engineering, or a related field by the time of hire.
