Job summary

Saint Paul Public Schools seeks a Teaching Assistant I to support students in a regular education setting. You will work under a licensed teacher, follow the daily schedule, and assist with materials, checkouts, and classroom activities, including tutoring in core subjects.

The role requires basic reading/writing/math, typing, and comfort with iPads. You must be punctual, relate well to students, and help create an equitable classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Basic skills in reading, writing and math required.
• Typing and computer/iPad use may be required for some positions.
• Be racially conscious and support equitable outcomes for all students.
• Ability to develop positive relationships with students and staff.
• Be sensitive to the needs of others and communicate with warmth and understanding.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direction of a licensed teacher and follow the daily schedule.
• Support all students in general education classrooms, including those with 504 Plans or IEPs.
• Monitor student behavior and assist in correcting work; maintain daily records.
• Tutor students in reading, language arts, spelling, math, social studies and other subjects.
• Assist with checkout/in of materials, organize instructional supplies, and set up equipment.
• Use technology including iPads; assist in program registration and fee collection.
