Job Title: Teaching Artist Lead Reports to: Program Director

Pay Classification: Part-time Monday through Saturday

Organization Description:

Artists ReEnvisioning Tomorrow Inc (ART INC), founded in 2018 by Jonathon and Nikki arts education opportunities to nearly 500 students each year. Art INC is Peoria’s foremost arts and culture non-profit organization. The staff, board, volunteers, and teaching artists of ART INC. work tirelessly to generate programs for all students to imagine, create, and realize their full potential through the arts, regardless of their ability to pay.

Purpose:

We are currently looking for educators in visual art, creative writing, visual media, STEM, culinary arts, dance, cheer, yoga, theater, fashion and more! We provide a flexible schedule!

The Lead Teaching Artist is responsible for teaching arts education classes during the ART Inc’s Arts Science & Leadership Academy (ASALA) program.The Teaching Artist will develop weekly lesson plans that introduce students to an artistic discipline. Lesson plans must be interactive, grade-appropriate and designed to showcase students’ artistry, classroom experience and approach to arts-integrated school-based work.

ASALA is for 1st-12th grade students and is open Monday through Saturday from 2:30-6:00pm. Teaching Artists must complete and pass a background check.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Lead Teaching Artist is responsible for teaching professional and educational classes that are leveled for beginner to advanced students. The teacher will utilize weekly lesson plans for 1st – 12th graders that follow state, grant standards and establish scope and sequence timelines for their discipline. Lesson plans must be interactive, grade-appropriate, and designed to showcase students’ artistry.

The Teaching Artist is responsible for a 20-30-hour work week (Monday – Saturday) 10:00 – 6:00 p.m. Applicants must show competency in managing a classroom. They must complete and pass a background check.

Teaching Artist Lead must also:
  • Support students being provided extra-curricular experiences (quarterly)
  • Support students being engaged in competition experiences throughout the year (ie Skills USA)
  • Support completion of homework as needed
  • Create a consistent, positive, and nurturing environment for students with procedures and expectations identified and measured periodically
  • Classroom management guidelines consistently met
  • Support the development and execution of weekly lesson plans, curriculum, and project-based learning within the artistic discipline hired to maintain
  • Monitor student activity and maintain a safe atmosphere and learning environment throughout the Center
  • Share their love for the arts and working with young people
  • Report any incidents contributing g to an unsafe or undisciplined atmosphere
  • Communicate effectively/consistently with parents
  • Support the creation of standard based curriculum/experiences for students with varied skill levels

Supervisor Relationship:

The person designated to provide supervision of the Teaching Artist and from whom the Teaching Artist takes direction in all matters related to carrying out the duties and responsibilities described in this position description is the Director of Operations and Performing Arts.

Work Environment:

This position is multi-site, meaning that work generally takes place at the Center and multiple locations within the community.

Mental and Physical Requirements:
  • Physical effort is light, with lifting or carrying limited to 25 pounds intermittently as well as walking up and down stairs. Occasionally, there is pressure associated with project or activity deadlines.Complete proper protocolfor fingerprinting and background check through the Peoria Public School district office
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong background with experience in their discipline. The candidate for this position must present evidence of a robust and creative job history that is relevant to visual /performing arts education.
