Guide children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth necessary for child development and further learning.
Duties
- Provide materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate, and use in learning and imaginative play.
- Attend to children's basic needs including feeding, dressing, and diaper changing.
- Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number, letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills.
- Guide behavior in developmentally appropriate ways.
- Read books to classes and individual children.
- Organize and lead activities that promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, art, music, and storytelling.
- Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and health.
- Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related issues and discuss with supervisors, parents, or guardians.
- Meet with parents and guardians to discuss progress and needs, and suggest ways to support learning and development.
- Prepare classroom materials and setup for activities.
- Teach proper eating habits and personal hygiene.
- Serve meals and snacks following nutritional guidelines.
- Help children acclimate to the school environment by greeting them, assisting with outerwear, and choosing activities of interest.
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse needs and interests.
- Set clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate these to children.
- Demonstrate activities to children.
- Arrange indoor and outdoor spaces to facilitate creative play, motor skills, and safety.
- Maintain accurate student records as per licensing and accreditation standards.
- Prepare reports on students and activities as required.
- Plan and conduct a balanced program including instruction, demonstration, and work time that encourages observation, questioning, and investigation.
- Organize and display student work appropriately for their age and perceptual skills.
- Participate in professional meetings, conferences, and workshops to enhance skills.
- Collaborate with staff to plan lessons aligned with curricula.
- Attend staff meetings as required.
