Job summary

Little City in Palatine, IL is seeking a dedicated Paraprofessional Educator to support teachers and students in the Main Campus setting. This full-time role runs 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a focus on instructional support and maintaining a positive classroom environment.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree and a Paraprofessional Educator License. Training includes CPR/First Aid and ongoing Little City programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required and Paraprofessional Educator License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Preferred that the Bachelor's Degree be in education, human services, or disability related field.

Responsibilities

  • Act as substitute teacher when needed.
  • Provide instructional support to students per teacher/IEP.
  • Maintain records and organize education folders.
  • Assist with behavioral programming and daily activities.
  • Collaborate with team and participate in required meetings.
  • Ensure safety and supervise students during transitions and activities.
  • Sanitize surfaces and maintain a clean learning environment.

Job Location: Main Campus - Little City Center for Education - Palatine, IL 60067

Position Type: Full Time

Education Level: Bachelor's Degree

Salary Range: $25.00 - $25.00 Hourly

Job Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Monday - Friday

Wage: $ 25.00/ Hr

Purpose

To assist, support, and work closely with teachers, administrators, and other team members in providing educational benefits for students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. When teacher is absent or out of the classroom, will be the substitute teacher.
  2. Provides instructional support to assigned students to implement educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator.
    • Constructs/ modifies/adapts instructional materials/games/displays/learning centers.
    • Works with students to operate computer and supportive technology.
    • Supervises the student's completion of educational activities as outlined in the IEP, observes and records data.
    • Maintains records and files relevant to assignment- anecdotal notes, written observations, accurate education folders.
  3. Implements behavioral programming as determined by team.
  4. Provides personal and safety assistance to students.
  5. Communicates and shares ideas and concerns with lead Teacher/Site Director, team/professionals.
  6. Actively participates in meetings as required.
  7. Assists with critical daily activities such as classroom transition times, mealtimes, and toileting.
  8. Supervises students as required in classroom, media room, cafeteria/multi-purpose room, sensory room, gym playground field trips.
  9. Fosters student independence.
  10. Works collaboratively as a member of the team.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Help to maintain a clean and organized learning environment.
    • Sanitize all surfaces, equipment, and classroom toys.
  11. Maintains American Heart Association certification in First Aid and CPR.
  12. Successfully completes Little City required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods; frequently grasps, lifts, holds, or feels objects; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and lift up to 25 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a reoccurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR and CPI. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including communicable diseases when performing personal care (Category III). Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. School work environment with a noise level of normal to loud.
