Teacher/Transition and Employment Specialist (Fort Smith/Van Buren)

Summary

The Teacher/Transition and Employment Specialist will work within the Easterseals Arkansas pre-employment and employment programs. The Specialist is responsible for assessing and increasing strengths, interests, and abilities of the individuals we serve related to employment skills acquisition and job development. The role involves providing supported employment services such as employment skills development, job development, on-site job coaching, and progress monitoring. The ideal candidate should be outgoing, self-driven, motivated, flexible, goal-oriented, and personable, capable of building positive relationships with students, school district staff, Arkansas Rehabilitation Services, and local employers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Classroom Instruction: (In person and virtually as applicable):
    • Utilize teaching methods, materials, curriculum fidelity, and adaptations suitable to meet individual needs.
    • Assess learning strengths, areas for development, and interests.
    • Develop goals and outcomes with input from the individual based on assessments.
    • Teach employability skills, including communication, technology, problem solving, teamwork, personal appearance, financial management, professionalism, self-determination, self-advocacy, resume writing, interview skills, and job search.
    • Assist individuals in developing a portfolio with certificates, recommendation letters, etc.
    • Monitor and record progress and attendance.
    • Educate employers on disability awareness and strategies for supervising individuals with disabilities.
    • Maintain accurate and complete files for all individuals served.
  2. Recruitment and Selection:
    Assist in recruitment, review applications, ensure eligibility for funding, participate in referral selections, and communicate with prospective clients and stakeholders.
  3. Employment Instruction and Support:
    Develop relationships with businesses, coordinate work placements, provide job coaching, support parents and individuals, and ensure successful employment outcomes. Maintain documentation and compliance with regulations.
  4. Professionalism/Initiative:
    Maintain professional competence, participate in training, and demonstrate leadership capabilities. Stay current with best practices.
  5. Supervisory Responsibilities:
    No supervisory responsibilities.
  6. Compliance/HIPAA:
    Adhere to all relevant laws and regulations, respect protected health information, and follow privacy policies.
