Once a part of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary's campus, the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, MO is today the headquarters and curia (governing body) for the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Principal, the Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction, supervision, and support for students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

The Substitute Teacher supports the mission of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary School and the Archdiocese of St. Louis to evangelize and catechize youth within a Catholic school environment. The Substitute Teacher is expected to serve as a positive role model of Catholic faith, respect, kindness, responsibility, and service while maintaining a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.

Job Responsibilities
  • Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular classroom teacher or school administration.
  • Provide appropriate instruction and guidance to students in accordance with the teacher's lesson plans and established classroom expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, orderly, and positive classroom environment.
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management and address student behavior appropriately and consistently.
  • Supervise students throughout the school day, including classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, and other assigned duties.
  • Assist students with classroom assignments and activities as appropriate.
  • Utilize classroom technology, including Smart Boards and other instructional technology, as needed to support the curriculum.
  • Maintain established classroom routines, schedules, and expectations.
  • Communicate appropriately and professionally with students, faculty, staff, and school administration.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, school operations, and other sensitive information.
  • Follow all school and Archdiocesan policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Support the Catholic identity, mission, and values of Assumption School.
  • Perform other duties and supervision responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.

  • Ability to pass required criminal history and background checks.
  • Professional demeanor and clean, neat, and appropriate personal appearance.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.
  • Availability to work between7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., as needed.
  • Ability to respond to phone calls, text messages, and email communications as early as5:00 a.m. when substitute coverage is being coordinated.
